In what is becoming a tradition, 96 members of the senior class — the largest number of participating students to date — took advantage of the unique opportunity to expand their educational experience outside the classroom prior to graduation by taking part in the Senior Project Program.

Endorsed by the administration and the Board of Education and spearheaded by Riverside Principal Peter Hliatzos, the Senior Project Program took place during the last two weeks of the school year and provided interested and eligible seniors the

Senior Project Continues To Growchance to take part in meaningful independent projects of their own selection and design.

After meeting the guidelines and requirements for inclusion in the program, the students’ selected projects exposed them to people and ideas not part of their classroom experience, while giving them an opportunity to engage in educational pursuit, community service, and career exploration.

A sincere thank you goes to each of our Community Sponsors, for without their guidance and support the Senior Project Program would not be possible.

Voters’ Support ContinuesOn May 5, 2015, voters

within the Riverside Local School District, along with Painesville City Local Schools, Perry Local Schools, and Madison Local Schools, once again showed their support by renewing the Lake County School Financing District Levy. This was the sixth consecutive time the Joint Financing Levy has been voted on and approved since 1990.

By combining the taxpayers and tax values

from all four districts, the revenue from this levy is distributed based on each district’s student

enrollment. The Riverside Local Schools account for 49% of the total value of the combined districts and will receive approximately $2.3 million, or 6% of its general operating budget.

Riverside is a community of great pride! Thank you for your ongoing support of our school district and the students we serve.

New Season, New ConferenceWhen Riverside High School athletic teams

head into competition this school year, they will be doing so as a member of the new Western Reserve Conference.

After 18 years as a member of the Premier Athletic Conference, Riverside High School will team up with former PAC members Chardon, Madison, Eastlake North and Willoughby South in the new WRC. They will be joined by Kenston, which is coming from the Chagrin Valley Conference; and Brush and Mayfield, which are both arriving from the Northeast Ohio Conference.

This will be the fourth edition of the Western Reserve Conference with Riverside taking part for the second time. The Beavers were previously members of the second version of the WRC from 1949-51.

One of the first teams to play under the banner of the WRC will be the football team, which kicks off its season at Perry on Friday, August 28. The home opener on Friday, September 4 against West Geauga will start at 7:30 p.m. following the

annual pregame tailgate party held directly behind the school. After the home game against Harvey on Friday, September 11, which also starts at 7:30 p.m., all remaining contests will kick off at 7:00 p.m.

Eleven art students from Riverside High School recently shared their creative talents by artistically painting fire hydrants in Concord Township, along with a couple of hydrants on the Riverside Campus. Located in the Ledgewood Crossing at the Falls neighborhood, the hydrants were transformed based on the theme of local pride.

Under the direction of Riverside art teacher Jessica Presutti Biller, and assisted by art teachers Drew Hartmann and Skip Jamison, the following students took part in this project: Sara Apanavicius, Madison Bell, Dan Coon, Clara Hach, Jeremy Janota, Emily Lupica, Jacob Mackin, Olivia Mayer, David Mohr, Jenna Palek, and Renee Williamson.

As shown by the sampling of the students’ work, designs ranged from baseball and nautical motifs to celebrating rock and roll music.

Debra Esker facilitated this project for Concord Township and focused on keeping the students safe and comfortable during the day. Other organizations that graciously provided support for this community outreach activity included Laketran (donated

transportation to and from the development), City of Painesville (donated the paint), Concord Fire and Maintenance Departments (provided general support and supplies), and Quail Hollow Resort (provided golf carts for monitoring the project within the development). Thank you to all for making the day extremely successful and allowing us to showcase our students’ talent within our community.

This is the second time Riverside students have painted hydrants in Concord with the first being in the Far Hills Drive neighborhood.
