Congratulations to these Band Students These band students were accepted to the Western Interna-
tional Band Clinic Honor Band! They competed with students
from all over the west coast! They will attend rehearsals and
workshops with international composers and conductors in
November.
We are so happy for Sarnika Ali, bassoon; Kate Filiss, oboe;
Gavin Levchak, bass clarinet; Cody Nutter, baritone; Mariah
Schlitzkus, tuba.
STUDENTS BEING CREATIVE...
On SAT/PSAT testing day, some of our students, along
with their Paraeducators took some time to be creative
and paint some pumpkins in preparation for our Fall
Festival here at school this weekend.
BLOOD DRIVE OCT. 29
The blood drive is returning to ARHS. The Raven Medical Club will be hosting Cascade Blood Ser-
vices on Friday, Oct. 29 from 7:30 - 2:30. This drive is open to all students 16 years and older. Stu-
dents that are 16 and 17 years old will need to get advanced permission from their parent or guardian
before donating. To print the permission slip, please click here or have your student go to the Activi-
ties/Athletics office to pick one up through Oct. 28. To sign up, everyone will need to scan the QR
code on the posters placed around the school to select an available time slot.
FALL YEARBOOK SALE ON NOW
Yearbooks are on sale Oct 25 - Nov 5 for $45 payable at the cashier window with Mrs. Thibodeau.
Yearbook Spring Sale will not occur until June and will be $55 and limited to books available that have-
n't already been pre-ordered at Raven Day or this Fall Sale. Don't miss out!
A MESSAGE FROM THE NURSE
As we continue to navigate through this pandemic, I want to remind everyone that hand hygiene is your main defense against getting sick. Be sure to wash your hands (20+ seconds) frequently or use hand sanitizer if unable to access soap and water. Bathroom access has become a big issue due to students hanging out in them. The bathroom floor is the last place you should be sitting due to a high percentage of bacteria often found on the floor of public restrooms. Please be mindful of other students and only use the
restrooms for their intended purpose. Stay safe and healthy.
SMARTER BALANCED ASSESSMENT (SBA) - Wednesday, Oct. 27
Washington State determined that districts are required to hold this fall makeup test for all stu-
dents who were not tested during Remote Learning due to COVID. This applies to all 9th, 11th,
and 12th graders. 10th graders will take their SBA Tests in the Spring on the "normal" test schedule.
SBA testing is a Federal accountability requirement for all schools and the ELA and Math assessments can be used to
meet a student's graduation pathway requirement. Please click here to review the Office of Superintendent of Public
Instruction’s 7 - options for meeting this state level graduation requirement. If you have any questions regarding this
requirement, please contact your counselor.
Auburn Riverside will be holding the SBA for 9th, 11th, and 12th graders this Wed. 10/27 from 8:10am - 12:35 pm. All
9th, 11th, and 12th graders are expected to be at school all day for testing and classes.
Due to the make-up of the test and proctors needed, Sophomores have options for attendance that day. If a sopho-more can provide their own transportation, they may arrive at school for first period at 12:40 pm. All other sophomores who ride the bus, will be assigned to 1 location such as the commons or library to work in small groups for study time. For questions, please email Ana Kear [email protected].
NON-RELATED HOMECOMING EVENTS
ARHS has been made aware of a few non-school related Homecoming events. These events are not sanctioned by ARHS. We strongly recommend students continue to follow the Department of Health guidance on mask-wearing, physical distancing and other mitigation strategies to stay healthy. Large events not adhering to the DOH guidance make our students susceptible to quarantine which can impact aca-demics and participation in athletics and activities. Please continue to be safe.

COLLEGE FINANCIAL AID HOT TOPICS
College Financial Aid Hot Topic: FAFSA Application. Information provided on the FAFSA is only used to determine a student’s eligibility for financial aid. While com-
pleting the FAFSA does not obligate a student or a parent to accept financial aid, it is required in most cases to be eligible for grants, scholarships, or work study
assistance. Completing the FAFSA typically takes about 30 minutes. You will need to set up a FAFSA ID in advance and have these documents with you when
you sit down to fill out the application. The application is also available in Spanish.

ID card. Please note, in most cases you will need to pay a $3.00 replacement fee to the Cashier, Mrs. Thibodeau, before school, after school or during
your lunch.
LOST and FOUND ITEMS
If your student has lost any items here at school they may be in our Lost and Found closet in the Main Office. Have them stop in before school, at
lunch or after school to describe what they have lost and we will check for them. We currently have some keys, eye glasses, jewelry, lunch boxes,
water bottles and coats.
