To make it easy for you to figure out how much a wedding at the Ballroom will cost, all prices listed already includes tax and gratuities. Simply multiply your guest count by the price of the package you choose plus any extras you would like and that is the cost of your reception. There is an additional room fee of $20 per guest below 100 on most packages. So, for a guest count of 70, you would incur a room fee of $600.00. We offer a $400 DISCOUNT for Friday & Sunday weddings.

FAQ’s


Do you have a minimum guest count requirement?

We do not have a min dollar or guest amount, however, we do charge a room fee for less than 100 guests.

Room fee is $20 a head below 100. So, if you had 80 guests, you’d have a $400 room fee.

How many weddings do you do in one day?

We only hold one wedding a day.

Do you allow candles?

Yes, we allow candles. We are pretty flexible in what décor we allow and we encourage our couples to make it

their own with their unique touches. Our only restriction is that any décor items used can not be taped, glued or

nailed or in anyway affixed to the walls and woodwork.

Is the Ballroom air conditioned?

Yes, it is air conditioned and heated for all season comfort..

Do you offer discounts for Sunday or Friday Weddings?

Yes, we offer $400 off for a Friday or Sunday (room fee still applies) .

Where will our guests park?

The Ballroom has arrangements for your guests to park at a reserved lot. We provide a shuttle for your guests

to be taken from the lot to the front door.

Can we make our own food?

You do have the option of bringing your own caterer, however, the caterer must be licensed and insured and

provide a staff member on site to monitor the temp of the food. A certificate of insurance is required and must

be given to JTW&E and the Mauch Chunk Ballroom prior to the event date.

How many guests does the Ballroom hold?

Legal occupancy is 180 guests, however, for comfort we do not recommend more than 150 guests for buffet

and plated service. However, a cocktail reception can comfortably accommodate up to 180.

Are you wheelchair accessible?

As the building was rebuilt in 1878, we do not have a wheelchair or wheelchair accessible restrooms, however,

we do have a special chair lift that can take guests that may have difficulty walking up steps to the Ballroom

level.

Do your prices include tax?

The prices quoted includes tax on the food portion of the bill at the 6% tax rate. However, should the tax rate

change or additional taxes be added to services by the date of your event, the additional tax rate will need to be

added to your bill.

Is liquor allowed?

Yes. We provide basic beverage like Coke, Diet Coke and Sprite. Any alcoholic beverages and any mixers for

the alcohol must be provided by you. For parties where alcohol is being served, a bartender is required. Rate is

$25/per bartender per hour. All PA state laws regarding alcohol will be followed.

Ceremony Locations in Jim Thorpe


Anita Shapolsky Gallery

Once a church, this gallery displays abstract expressionist art. Guests can

peruse the artwork prior to your ceremony , which takes place in the

former sanctuary on the second floor. The space is usually made available

to couples the night before for rehearsal and arrangement of seating and

any decor you’d want to include (they have pews and chairs that can be

moved into place). You can satisfy your need for non-traditional while

also satisfying any families requirements of getting married in a traditional

church as it has managed to retain its beautiful and religious stain glass

windows. Available spring through early fall.

There are many unique and beautiful locations for you to get married in Jim Thorpe. Many of these locations

are within walking distance to the Mauch Chunk Ballroom. When you book at the Ballroom, we can help

make arrangements for your ceremony at any of these locations.

Mauch Chunk Opera House

The Opera House has a rich history in Jim Thorpe. It was a regular stop on the Vaudeveill circuit of the

1920’s and 1930’s and hosted legends like Mae West, Red Skeleton, Al Jolson, W.C Fields, and the Dorsey

Brothers among others. Today, the Opera House is a fully functioning concert venue that hosts regular shows

all year round on Friday and Saturday evenings. Requirements: Weddings are booked based on availability

and must be out of the venue by 3pm (both on rehearsal days and wedding day). Access for rehearsal the night

before is available for an additional fee. Backdrop lighting is provided. Sound and microphones can be used

for an additional fee. Arrangements can be made either through the Ballroom (when booking your reception

with us) or by calling JTAMS direct.

St. Mark & St. John’s Church on Race street

Immaculate Conception Church

This is one of the most beautiful churches in all of

Jim Thorpe and has historic significance to the

town, having been the church of Asa Packer and

many of the folks living on Millionaires Row back

in Jim Thorpe (then Mauch Chunk’s) Victorian hey

day. Church will be closed to tourists for your

wedding.

Fees vary on season and whether you are a

member or non-member of the Church. For

This beautiful Catholic Church is just steps away from the Mauch Chunk Ballroom. It is gorgeous both inside

and out and is located directly across the street from where your guest will park if your reception is being held

at the Ballroom. If it may be too far for some of your guests to walk, no worries, our shuttle van can take your

guests from your ceremony to the Ballroom’s front door.

Requirements: At least one of the two people getting marr ied must be Catholic. You can do your Pre-

Cana with your church. Couple must meet with Father Ward to determine eligibility and any fees involved.

Old Jailhouse Museum

For a truly unique location (and one that will get your

family talking) why not get hitched at the Old Jail

House Museum. One of Jim Thorpe’s most popular at-

tractions, the Old Jailhouse Museum once housed some

of the Molly Maguires. On a wall in one of the cells is

the infamous hand print, put there by a Maguire that

swore his innocence. It is located between the Ball-

room parking lot and the Ballroom itself. I suggest the

jailhouse for 2 hours—1 hour for rehearsal the day be-

fore and 1 hour for ceremony (assuming 1/2 hour cere-

mony).

Fees: around $130/hour. Suggested 2 hours $260.00.

Not many realize this park is there, but it’s nestled just below the Asa Packer Mansion and the Harry Packer

Mansion and next to the lot for the Carbon County Courthouse. There is a little patchy green area just in front

of the beautiful restored Kemmerer Carriage House that would make a great location for an outdoor ceremony.

Guests would have a little grassy hike to the location from the lot.

Fees: Unknown, but I can contact the Kemmerer Park Foundation to inquire about any donations they

may want for your event if you are interested.

Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway

Josiah White Park - Jim Thorpe Train Station

For a truly unique experience for both you and your guests, you can get hitched on a railcar. The car seats 70

guests and rides into the beautiful Lehigh Gorge State Park and back. Say your ‘I do’s’ in comfort and style

surrounded by natural beauty of the park. Arrangements can be made with the Mauch Chunk Ballroom

coordinators to have staff members available on the car to pour champagne for a special post ceremony toast

as your ride back into Jim Thorpe. Season for the train is May - December.

Fees: Price for the train car is $772.80 ($840 less 8% group discount) for standard coach car. Other

This beautiful town center is located just in front of the Mauch Chunk Train station. If you’re not shy, this is

a great outdoor option. The Gazebo is subject to availability (not typically available during town festivals).

If you book at the Ballroom, we can easily make the arrangements with the borough to reserve the Gazebo.

Mauch Chunk Lake Key to the tourist success of Jim Thorpe was the creation of the beautiful Mauch Chunk Lake that damned up

the water that flowed off the mountain and often flooded the town. Now, it’s a recreation spot for fishing, row

boating and kayaking and camping. Surrounded by natural beauty, it is a beautiful spot to tie the knot. .

Fees: May vary by season. You’ll have to have a ceremony either early in the AM before the park

opens to swimmers or after it closes at sundown to have a beach wedding. There is another spot just at

the edge of the lake that would be available at various times, but may be a little difficult for guests to get

Ukrainian Homestead Outdoor Chapel

Tucked in the woods , this beautiful chapel is a great option for those looking to have both an outdoor and a

traditional church setting. It’s located within Jim Thorpe town limits and just outside the downtown area off

Rte 209.

The Inn at Jim Thorpe The Inn is a beautiful historic gem. Built in

1849 it sits right in the historic district of

downtown Jim Thorpe. The Inn, previously

called the New American Hotel, played host

The Gilded Cupid Located directly across the street from The Mauch Chunk Ballroom, The Gilded Cupid is a beautiful Victorian

Bed and Breakfast. Each room is named after one of it’s historic residents (Anna, Bev & Phil’s Room) that

The Victorian Mansion This beautiful mansion is located just steps

from the Ballroom. Currently sleeps 10 on

the first floor (renovations under way on the

second and third floors) with 5 bedrooms and

2 baths. Minimum 2 night stay is required.

Many of my couples and their families have

stayed at this home. It offers some beautiful

photos and is a great place for the Couple

and their wedding party to get ready.

Don’t Miss These Photo Opportunities


There are just so many beautiful photo opportunities in this town. Some are obvious, while others are more hidden

and may not be known to those unfamiliar with the town. Here is a list, along with some photos other couples have

taken at these locations. All are within walking distance of the Ballroom and can be done within 1 hour (during

cocktail hour)

Erwin’s Castle Ruins - stands along Hill

Road. You get to it by walking a fairly

steep road accessed by making a right as

you come up Broadway by the Opera

House. There are no trespassing signs, but

many tourists as well as couples venture up

anyway to capture this beautiful Jim

Thorpe relic. A sign is posted with the his-

tory and efforts to restore it to its former

glory.

Asa Packer Mansion - while you won’t

be able to snag any photos inside the man-

sion, you certainly can access it’s porch

and get some really nice shots of you and

your bridal party. If you walk around the

porch to the left (as you look at the house)

there is a path that leads up to a green area

that overlooks Jim Thorpe. You can cer-

tainly get some photos there as well.



Asa Packer Guest House - this aban-

doned guests house sits behind the Asa

Packer Mansion. The couple pictured took

these on a “day after” shoot and required

some climbing. If you’re feeling adven-

turous, this might be a great location to get

some shots.

The Train & Station - The conductors are

friendly and always willing to let couples hop

on for a quick picture in between runs.

Harry Packer Mansion - This is a privately run business. You may

try to call ahead to make arrangements for the couple to have a glass of

wine in the Libations lounge and take a quick photo

Lehigh River - feeling adventurous? You can go down to the river for

some pictures next to nature. May be best for a “day after” or “trash

the dress” shoot. But be careful!

Mauch Chunk Lake - it’s outside of walking distance, but would be a

beautiful place to get some photos. Be sure to arrange for transporta-

tion to get shots at the lake.

Glen Onoko Falls - this is best for a “day after” shoot or trash the

dress idea. Be sure to hike up in proper shoes and be careful - as it is a

treacherous hike.

Old Jailhouse - you can get some pics with your new ball and chain

in the old Jailhouse Museum. May be subject to jail entry fee
