This year, for the second time in three years, Bais Yaakov students traveled to the warm and inviting community of Malden for the annual Shabbaton. Congregation Beth Is-rael of Malden hosted BYB for what proved to be a memorable and unfor-gettable Shabbos. Under the supervi-sion of Mrs. Gitty Leff, extracurricular advisor, students busily threw them-selves into preparation for the Shab-baton, from the food to the room decorations, and then enjoyed a stim-ulating and full program, including singing, games, and performances. The theme was “sweet dreams”, and it was expounded upon in the thought-provoking speeches and panel dis-

cussions about how to set goals and make them into reality, as well as how to maximize the high school ex-perience. The girls were awakened to many new and thought-provoking topics, and left the Shabbaton feel-

ing revived in a different sense, after an action packed yoga exercise class, given by Mrs. Hadassah Zar on Mot-zoei Shabbos.

Joining the girls were the Leff, Berzansky, and Plotnik families, and Miss Aviva Markson, as well as Rabbi and Rebbetzin Rabinowitz of Con-gregation Beth Israel. Both BYB and members of the Malden community look forward to a return visit in the near future.

A special thank you goes to Rabbi and Rebbetzin Rabinowitz, Matthew Garland, executive director, Noreen Sweeny, and Congregation Beth Is-rael for this wonderful and warm weekend.

our twentieth year! our hallways are once again alive with the laughter and joy of our students. Our classrooms are filled with the sounds of learning, questioning, growing – the sounds of in-quisitive young women shaping their identity and future. New friendships are blossoming; new horizons are being discovered.

Bais Yaakov warmly welcomes Mrs. Rachel Faibish, a Bais Yaakov alumna, as our new Computer Teacher and Yearbook Instruc-tor and Mrs. Yonina Blassberger, as our new ninth grade Eng-lish teacher. We wish all our teachers and students success in the new year – with its endless possibilities.

MESILA - fINANCIAL LITErACY PrOgrAM

As a new and exciting addition to the senior curriculum, Bais Yaakov recently implemented the Mesila Financial Literacy course. This course has been designed to equip our students with the tools, skills, and knowledge they will require in order to be financially lit-erate and achieve financial stability; the material is presented in a way that takes into consideration the unique needs of the Jewish family.

The Mesila course addresses various budgeting topics in-cluding: understanding financial stability (identifying obstacles, spending habits, mistaken attitudes, etc.), income (choosing a

19TH ANNUAL DINNEr

Over 200 participants attended Bais Yaakov’s 19th Annual Scholarship Banquet this past June; the event celebrated 19 years of success and ac-complishment and paid tribute to the honorees. The evening was opened with remarks from Mr. Gil Preuss, Executive Vice President of cJP, praising Bais Yaakov for their achieving excellence in day School education. Rabbi Tsvi Levin, our esteemed principal, introduced and presented the Parents of the Year Award to Dr. and Mrs. Shmuel and Devora Millman. dr. Millman expressed profound appre-ciation to Rabbi Levin and all the teachers for the exceptional education his daughters are receiving.

A beautiful video was presented, highlighting

the new developments and ongoing programs at Bais Yaakov, thus allowing the crowd to receive a small glimpse into the uniqueness of a Bais Yaakov education. Following the presentation, Rabbi Shlo-imy Halpern introduced and presented the Young Leadership Award to Mr. and Mrs. Zev and Sara Meyers. Mr. Meyers related that the education that Sara - alumna of 2002 - received continues to im-pact their lives day in and day out.

Thank you to the many individuals who worked tirelessly to ensure the success of the dinner. Last-ly, but most importantly, thank you to our parent body and to our supporters– our partners – for joining and celebrating with us.

INTErNATIONAL STUDENT CONvENTION

The girls returned to Boston with a new and deeper appreciation of knowing Hashem in all aspects of life, and with a special feeling of connection to Bais Yaakov students all

around the globe.

rOSE rUDErMAN SCHOLArSHIP AwArD CErEMONYThis past June, BYB senior Chava

Rivka Dovek was a proud recipient of the Rose Ruderman Scholarship Award. This award ceremony – spon-sored by the Ruderman Family and hosted by Rose’s grandchildren, Sharon and Rony Shapiro – was an opportunity to recognize seven stu-dents of local Jewish Orthodox day Schools in Boston. The recipients were chosen for emulating the ex-ceptional chessed and love towards others that epitomized the life of Rose Ruderman a”h.

Rose Ruderman, an extraordi-narily caring woman, was gifted with a deep empathy toward others and a love of chessed. She served as a role model, demonstrating through her actions and kindness how a single person can make a difference; her son, Mort, z”l, furthered her legacy by demonstrating that service and giving is a communal responsibility, a G-d given trust to make a differ-ence.

We are so grateful to the Rud-erman Family for all that they do to

make a difference in the lives of our students.

Recently, nine seniors from Bais Yaakov attended the annual Interna-tional Convention, held this year in oak Park, Michigan. The trip began on thursday, November 20, when the girls flew down to detroit. they then received a tour of Bais Yaakov of detroit, and officially began an in-spirational and fun-filled weekend. Over 400 girls from across the uS and Canada attended the conven-tion. “B’chol derachecha da’ayhu”, de-veloping an awareness of Hashem’s presence in all aspects of our lives, was the theme that was emphasized and discussed throughout the week-end. The girls were privileged to hear speeches from many distinguished and well-known personalities in the Torah world, including an inspir-ing keynote address given by Rabbi Moshe tuvia Lieff shlit”a. there were

stimulating workshops and student roundtable discussions over Shabbos that proved to be informative and thought-provoking. Special highlights of the convention were the exhibits of specially decorated classrooms con-necting to the theme of the conven-

tion, and a production, both created by the host school, Bais Yaakov of De-troit. A superb Shabbos morning dvar Torah was presented by our very own Ariella Bitran. The convention concluded on Sunday with an amaz-ing cruise trip followed by a banquet, allowing newly formed friendships to blossom. The girls returned to Bos-ton with a new and deeper apprecia-tion of knowing Hashem in all aspects of life, and with a special feeling of connection to Bais Yaakov students all around the globe.
