M. Angela Strobel, OSB attended the triennial plenary assembly of the International Union of Superiors General (UISG) held at Hotel Ergife in Rome from May 3-8 with 800 women religious in attendance. The theme was "IT SHALL NOT BE SO AMONG YOU." S. Mary John Mananzan, OSB gave the first con-

ference on “Post Vatican II Per-spectives on Religious Leader-ship.”

The last day, May 8, was capped with a private audience with Pope Francis who said that the church "would be missing maternity, affection, tender-ness" without the religious women. During his talk,

the Pope made note of the gathering's theme of servant leadership, saying that the es-sence of power is service. "We must never for-get that true power, at whatever level, is service, which has its bright summit upon the cross."

Sr.Lucida Schmieder, OSB returned to the Olinda Priory on April 27. She

shares, “The time has come now to leave the Communi-ty LUMEN CHRISTI in order to return to the place of my first mission,thePriory of Olinda.”. She was with the community in Maihingen for nearly 29 years.

Also back to their home priories are Sr. Luca Lee, OSB from Tutzing to Seoul, Sr. Angela Park OSB from Bulgaria to Seoul, Sr. Alzirene Andrade da Fonseca, OSB from Angola to Olinda. Sr. Heriberta Erhard, OSB from Nairobi is now a returning missionary at Haus St. Benedikt.

Many Sisters have responded to the third direction of the recent General Chapter which is Inter-Priory Sharing. Sr. Terese Zemale, OSB was installed as Prioress of Ndanda on June 29. Together with her in Ndanda is Sr. Marissa Piramide, OSB from the Manila Priory.

Sr. Lioba Yang, OSB, who served India for 16 years, is now part of the Peramiho Priory. Sr. Leticia Saraza, OSB returned to Bulgaria after a three-year stint at the Manila Priory. Sr. Stellamaris Cheserek, OSB from Nairobi is happy to be an added member of the Casa Com-munity in Rome. Sr. Pascha Park, OSB from Seoul is back in Nairobi. Sr. Agnes Aiso, OSB from Jinja was sent to Peramiho. Sr. Fidelis Kim, OSB from Daegu is a pioneering sister in Sri Lanka.

Conductor Michael Schopper with his

choir treated the Casa Community with a reper-toire from the works of Mozart, Bach and Haen-del in the Sisters’ chapel on April 18.

Conductor Markus Teutschbein and his

boys’choir sang sacred music for the Sisters in the chapel on April 23. Their beautiful voices brought them to St. Peter’s Square where they sang during the Pope’s audience the following day.

Missio Munich Celebrates 175th Anniversary On May 18 Sr. Chantal Gerster, OSB and Sr. Martha Baumeister, OSB attend-ed the 175th anniversary of Missio Munich which was launched in 1838 by the Bavarian King Ludwig I. Also present was Abbot Primate Notker Wolf, OSB. The Missio Munich supports the mission projects in Africa, Asia and the Pacific.

Reichert, OSB from Conception Abbey, MO arrived. On June 23 Fr. Kenneth had an open house that the sisters know where their Chaplain lives. Fr. Kenneth’s presence is such a blessing for us and all who join us in prayer.”

dan where Jesus was baptized.

This was generally not accessi-

ble because of land-mines. The

Jordan is the frontier of Israel

and Jordania. The Israelis cleared a small corridor so

that the place could be visited, and even one could go

into the water, of course that I did. We had time to

pray and to meditate.”

St. Vincent Hos-pital which was renovated from October 2012 was finally com-pleted at the end of April. It has

special chairs made of solid wood - angelim- upholstered in sand color. The number of daily Holy Mass goers has increased since the renovation.

celebration was here in the Abbey Church. After the celebration the Children came to visit Sr. Fromunda. What a nice photo of them all to-gether.”

Twenty five Benedictines and Cistercians from USA, Great Britain, Nigeria, China, South Africa, Tanzania, India, Australia, Germany and the Philippines repre-sented by Sr. Therese Bulatao, OSB from the Manila Priory attended the MFP (Monastic Formators’ Program), a three- month course held in Rome from March 10-April 26 and in Assisi from April 27 -June 6.

Junior Sisters from Tutzing together with the Mission-ary Benedictine brothers had OSB Study Days at the Archabbey of St. Ottilien from April 15 to 19. Fr. Fidelis Rupert from Münsterschwarzach, who talked about “Geistlich kämpfen” (Spiritual Fight) was the resource person.
