What’s Happening at St. Agnes School………...

1st-3rd grade students attended the Missoula Children’s Theater

performance of Black Beard the Pirate performed at the Midwest Theater on Friday, Nov. 30th. The students enjoyed watching fellow

St. Agnes students, Graecyn Benton and Brooklyn Meisner, take part in

the production, which involved solving the mystery and adventure of Blackbeard’s missing treasure.

Las Posadas Celebration With the beginning of the advent season, St. Agnes students will be taking part in a Las Posadas celebration. This religious festival is celebrated in Mexico between December 16 and 24. It commemorates the journey that Mary and Joseph made from Nazareth to Bethlehem in search of safe refuge where Mary could give birth to the baby Jesus. Each evening during the festival, a small child dressed as an angel leads a procession through the streets of the town. The procession visits selected homes and asks for lodging for Joseph and Mary. Traditionally, the procession is always refused lodging, though the hosts often provide refreshments. Parents are welcome to join us for this celebration which will take place in the gym starting at 8:15 on Dec. 10, 11, 13, 14, 17, 18, 20, 21. The final celebration will take place at 1:00 on Dec. 21st.

Classroom News………...

Library Room News By Lana Payne

During the holiday season we often find ourselves reflecting on the many joys and blessings in our lives. I’d like to share one of my reflections on St. Agnes and my role as the librarian.

This is a story about a student I’ve watched grow and mature. Last year this student didn’t much like coming to library and wasn’t much interested in checking out books. If a book was checked out, it was weeks before it was returned. Library time was a social time rather than a time to explore the many adventures the books had to offer. But this year, what to my wondering eyes should appear……but a student who has found a book that is LOVED. A book so loved and enjoyed that the student couldn’t wait to read the next book in the series! You can’t imagine my joy when this student asked for the next book by title and author! My heart leapt with joy! It was a Library miracle!

But alas, our excitement subsided when we discovered that our library didn’t have the book the student was hoping to find. The book the student was so anxious to read, the book that would take up from where the last book had ended, the book that would further the student’s love of reading, of learning, of adventure! Well, “What about the public library?” you may ask. Perhaps that was a solution, I offered. But I hoped I could do better for the student and our library. Indeed, the books needed were available from a friendly internet store (postage free) and arrived so quickly you would have thought they were delivered by St. Nick (via UPS). The student was surprised and thrilled to see the new books in our library and I was delighted the see the smile on that student’s face as the student checked out the next book in the series!

Learning to read is the gift we give our students, their love of reading is the gift they give in return! I hope you all can find time during the Christmas Season to sit with each other and share a good book! God Bless You All and have a Very Merry Christmas.

The December Reading Incentive Raffle winners are: Natalie Zeiler, Ryan Dudley, Jacob Mark, Addison Peck.

CONGRATULATIONS!

Second Grade Class By Lori Svitak

Ho, Ho, Ho, here we go into the Christmas season. We have already started thinking about how to make the season extra special. In the spirit of the true meaning of Christmas , we have pledged to more random acts of kindness. This will help us concentrate on the coming of Jesus. We know that Advent is a blessed time of the year and that is our focus in our religion lessons. We have each made an Advent wreath. We will use this wreath to learn what the colors of Advent mean. In math, we have been learning many things including: measuring to the nearest inch, reading a thermometer to the nearest ten, sequencing a series of numbers, and naming fractional parts. The second grade class has a traveling plush Mary and Jesus. Each week a different

student takes either Mary or Jesus home. The student writes a short paragraph about what they go to do together. Mary and Jesus have gone on some exciting adventures.

Happy Birthday to Axton Merrigan, Brooklynn Nash. Happy Un-birthday to David Hafner and Jose Acosta.

Music Room News By Andrea Tritt

The past month in Music, St. Agnes students have been busy preparing for our Christmas Program, which took place December 6th. From Pre-K through 5th grade, the students learned and memorized Christmas songs to perform. Pre-K performed “Jingle Bells” and “Frosty the Snowman” all by themselves. Kindergarten and 1st grade learned “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” and “Rudolph the red Nosed Reindeer” for the performance, and 2nd-5th grade learned several traditional Christmas songs while telling The Christmas Story through song and scripture. All the students came together to sing “Silent Night” and “Joy to the World” to close out the program. Thank you to all the parents who listened to their kiddos practicing their Christmas music at home!! I was happy to hear that some students were practicing by performing for their family! Singspirations will be Christmas caroling at Dome Rock Manor in Gering, The Residency and The Veterans Home in Scottsbluff on Monday, December 10th. Any parents who volunteered to drive, please be at the school by 8:40 at the latest as we plan to leave at 8:45. Singspirations parents, please make sure your child wears their Singspirations shirt on Monday! Students may change into and out of their shirt for the rest of the day if they choose. Thank you to all the parent volunteers for driving! We couldn’t do it without you!!! Merry Christmas to all!
