SEPTEBMER/OCTOBER 2017– VOLUME 4

Message from Pastor Chris

As I worked my way through my reading list this summer, I came across this quote from George Wood, Superintendent of the General Council of the Assemblies of God; “Our memories must not be greater than our dreams.” I highlighted that quote because I thought it was great insight as we celebrate our 50

th Anniversary at PBC.

There are many memories of the past that we will want to recall as we celebrate. The memories of those who have come before us, who have served and sacrificed to make PBC what it is today, not only remind us of our roots, but can be the fuel of inspiration that we need to continue our journey together into the future. Yet true faith is futuristic. Until Jesus calls His church out of this world, faith is believing that God has a plan and a purpose for His church. We honor both Christ and those who have come before us when we choose to let our dreams of the future for PBC be greater than our memories. Another highlighted quote from my summer reading comes from Christopher Schmitz; “We do not need a restoration of the ‘good old days.’ We need a new, fresh outpouring of the Spirit of God.” Longing for and praying for a new, fresh outpouring of God’s Spirit faith is indicative of a living faith. So as we celebrate 50 years, let us not just remember, let us dream together. What does Jesus want His church to be and do in the next 50 years?

Kindness Ambassadors We are recruiting volunteers to be part of the Parkade Kindness Ambassadors.

What is a Kindness Ambassador? It is someone willing to go the extra mile to show kindness to our neighbors. We will be organizing monthly events that anyone can participate in and some that even children can be a part of. This past month we helped people with their carts at local grocery stores. We have some new ideas for the coming months but welcome your input when you join. Contact Linda Martin at 573-881-5403 or [email protected].

GLS Thank you and Update

A special thank you to all of our volunteers and participants who were at the Global Leadership Summit on August 10-11. With an attendance of approximately 230, it was largest attended GLS that we have experienced since we became a host site five years ago. We have received a number of letters and e-mails expressing appreciation for hosting for the GLS. Many of our guest have commented on how the event was thought provoking and challenged them to raise their level of influence for Christ in both the work place as well as in the church.

Before the GLS came to a completion on Friday, we had a number of guest register for next year’s event. Next year’s GLS is August 9 and 10, 2018.

You are never too old to learn. Your presence at the event is a great encouragement and inspiration to younger, future leaders. Registration is open for next year’s event. As a host site there is a $10 discount if you register by October 24. You can sign up on our web-site and use the cod 18HSFAMILY for the discount.

GLS Recommended Reading

Many have heard of Corrie ten Boom’s struggle to forgive her Nazi captors in her book The Hiding Place. Meet Immaculee Ilibagiz, a modern day Corrie ten Boom. In her book Left to Tell, Immaculee tells of her struggle to forgive the killers who killed her family and caused her great harm during the Rwandan Holocaust of 1994.

For three months a Pastor in Rwanda hid Immaculee and 6 other women in a tiny bathroom to keep the killers from finding them. During those months of hiding Im-maculee tells how she turned to prayer and trusted God for survival. As a Civil War waged in Rwanda, Immaculee says that an internal spiritual battle waged within her and the only way she could battle the thoughts Satan was putting into mind during that time was to spend time in content prayer with God.

Left to Tell is a page turner. It is not only a story of God’s protection but also a story of forgiveness and grace. Immaculee shares how she worked through her bitterness and hate to forgive those who killed her family and destroyed her way of life. Her story of faith provides inspiration to be a person of prayer and forgiveness in a world of hate.

Immaculee Ilibagiza was a featured speaker at this year’s Global Leadership Summit. If you would like to see her talk we will be receiving the DVD of her talk in October. You may check it out after that date. Also if you would like to order her book for $10.00 please contact the church office.
