CONNECTIONS NEWSLETTER The Fresno Women’s Network was founded in 1987, as a way for women to support each other in business, personal, and

professional growth. Members are encouraged to build relationships, mentor one another, and give back to the community.

2010 Scholarship Awards Presentation This month our guest speaker is Dr. Shirley Bruegman

”The older I get, the more I have come to realize

that we are the ones in control of our lives. We

make choices every single day--some are small

and some are big. Should I have toast or cereal

for breakfast? Should I reject chemotherapy to

treat my cancer and instead elect to do

radiation? How we make choices is contingent,

to a large degree, on our outlook about life.

Everyone has hurdles to jump as they embark on

this journey. Although sometimes painful, I

believe it is by overcoming obstacles that we

become confident in trusting ourselves and the

choices we make." Dr. Shirley Bruegman

Our special guest speaker will be Dr. Shirley Bruegman. Dr. Bruegman is,

and has always been, an educator. She has been a teacher and an

administrator at the K-12, adult, community college and university levels. Dr.

Bruegman formerly served as the Vice Chancellor of the State Center

Community College District. She is currently the Director of the Community

College Faculty Preparation certificate program at California State

University, Fresno. In addition, Dr. Bruegman directs the Osher Lifelong

Learning Institute, an educational program for adults aged 50 and above at

Fresno State. Please join us as Dr. Bruegman shares her insights to education,

overcoming obstacles, and positive thinking.

In addition to our speaker, this month the Fresno Women’s Network will

have the pleasure of awarding scholarships to hard-working, determined, and

deserving candidates who truly exhibit the mission of the Network. You will

be able to meet and hear the stories of a group of women with a passion to

make a difference in their lives and the lives of others. This is your chance to

witness firsthand how your raffle donations and ticket purchases, coupled

with the year long efforts of the Network and Scholarship Committee,

provide women with the means to improve themselves and our community

through our scholarship program. Be ready to be inspired! Join us on

CONNECTIONS NEWSLETTER

Member Highlight from our April Luncheon

Alicia Keene, Grace Gardens Senior Care Community

Grace Gardens is a Residential Care Facility for the Elderly. Grace

Gardens has four acres of flowers and vegetable gardens, lawn,

gazebos, old time porches and patios with numerous pets for

company. Facility and grounds are open for family participation and

enjoyment with a loved one for birthdays, anniversaries, picnics or

any other function the family may enjoy.

Grace Gardens encourages any family member who is responsible

for the placement of a loved one to visit Grace Gardens, have lunch

with us and see for yourself the quality of care provided to our

residents. Visit us today at 10775 East Tulare Avenue Sanger Ca. Grace

School may be out, but the Fresno Women’s Network is hard at

work, paving the way for tomorrow’s graduates. June is the month

when we honor those chosen to receive scholarships from our

organization. The generous donations of raffle prizes and ticket

purchases at our luncheons are turned in to scholarships for

deserving women.. So a big 'Thank You' to all who support our

scholarship raffle." We also have money donated by the Susan

Melkonian Scholarship Fund for another scholarship. Susan was a

member who believed in our organization so much that she

provided for the Network in her will.. The Network Board

appreciates Susan’s forethought as do the recipients each year of

her scholarship. An additional thank you to the Scholarship

Committee for meeting with the applicants and making the decision

for the final recipients. These women’s lives will be changed

because of all of our efforts.

I am sorry to miss this event, but I will be continuing my education

by touring Germany the first two weeks of June. I will be thinking

of you knowing that the event will be in good hands with Cyndy

Trent, Scholarship Chair.

How has your Networking been coming along at the luncheons?

Last month, I looked around and saw a buzz of networking which is

what we want you to do. We have tried to keep our announcements

at a minimum so that you have more time to do so. Please be sure

to watch the Power Point so that you have the very latest in news.

Remember if you need any services check the Fresno Women’s

Network Directory or Website first before looking elsewhere!
