AUGUST 23-25, 2013
ANNIVERSARY WEEKEND SCHEDULE
Greetings friends and family of this remarkable college, referred variously in its illustrious history as: Conrad Grebel College, the MCEC College, “Connie-G,” Conrad Grebel University College or just Grebel!
Welcome to the 50th Anniversary Weekend. This is your “day in the sun!” May it be a time of celebration and thanksgiving, of play and reminiscing, of eating and worship and making a joyful noise! In word and deed may it be a joyous time of community building for each and every one of you who has helped Grebel grow and flourish in so many ways inside and outside the classroom.
As the Psalms proclaim: “This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.”
And with all the importance and dare I say even the grandeur of the opening ceremonies of the Olympics—let’s pass the torch and “let the games begin.”
Warmly,
Susan Schultz Huxman President, Conrad Grebel University College

Greetings from the Conrad Grebel University College Board of Governors
We are very grateful to be celebrating 50 years of this special place we call Conrad Grebel. As a Board of Governors we’re thankful for the strong support we have from our community that includes Mennonite Church of Eastern Canada, and the Mennonite community across North America and our alumni from around the world. Our Board builds on the strong foundation of previous leaders as we reflect back on 50 years we are humbled to carry forward the bold and courageous vision of many leaders who ventured into uncharted territory. The strength of our college is a testament to those who dared to dream and those who have carried this dream forward these past 50 years. Thank you for your participation in this dream and in these celebrations.
Susan Taves (‘84) Chair of the Board of Governors
Conrad GrebelUniversity College
Congratulations from Mennonite Church CanadaAs partners with Conrad Grebel University College in the educational and leadership formation ministry of the church, we celebrate and praise God with you for 50 years of rich service to the church and society. May you continue to flourish, rooted in the Christian faith and the Anabaptist tradition, equipping and inspiring new generations of students to aspire to the mission of God.
Dave Bergen, Executive Minister, Mennonite Church Canada Formation Willard Metzger, Executive Director, Mennonite Church Canada
Congratulations from Mennonite Church Eastern Canada Mennonite Church Eastern Canada (MCEC) offers its congratulations to Conrad Grebel University College as it celebrates 50 years of service within MCEC. In 1963, three different Mennonite conferences and one independent congregation collaborated to found a college that would offer young adults an opportunity to pursue studies at a public university, but within the context of an Anabaptist faith community. The success of this collaboration was an important factor that contributed to the 1988 merger of these conferences into MCEC.
Over the years, Grebel has continued to fulfill the vision of the Church and has been instrumental to its health and growth. The strong academic programs, the commitment to witness to God’s peace and justice, and the dedication to providing a rich faith community for students have all contributed to the education and faith development of countless lay leaders and pastors in MCEC. On this important occasion, MCEC extends its congratulations to the College but also wishes to express a heartfelt thank you for the significant way that Grebel has served both Church and world and continues to be an important partner in extending the peace of Jesus Christ.
