A note to the teacher…Teaching about Constitution Day
Constitution Day can be hard concept for students to grasp at a young age – some of your students might not even be able to pronounce constitution! The important message to get across on September 17th
for young learners is that the constitution is a set of rules for our country.
I suggest reading aloud books about the Constitution and having an open discussion with your students about how it effects our lives. The printable reader included in this download is meant to be used as a supplemental resource. Read the text with your students and give them time to color the pages. Even if your students cannot read the text, the pictures may help to serve as visual cues about the facts of Constitution Day.
Constructing the Tricorn HatTo add a little fun to your Constitution Day lesson, try creating these simple tricorn hats (like the hats our founding fathers wore).
Each student will need one full page of templates – three identical pieces.
1. Print the template on construction or regular paper2. Use tape, glue, or staples to attach the three pieces of the hat together on the X’s
