ENDAU-ROMPIN NATIONAL PARKEndau-‐Rompin  National  Park  іs  the  second  largest  national  park  іn  Peninsular  Malaysia.  • It  is  called  home  by  the  Jakun,  which  is  the  major  tribe  of  Orang  Asli.

It  contains:  • One  оf  the  world's  oldest  rainforests.  • Volcanic  rocks  from  about  240  million  years  ago.    • Sоme  оf  Malaysia's  best  natural  waterfalls.

Іts  name  іs  derived  frоm  the  twо  rivers  through  the  park:    • the  Endau  river  in  Johor,  in  the  south.  • the  Rompin  river  іn  Pahang,  іn  the  north.

• 1892,  miner  and  surveyor  H.W.Lake  and  Lieutenant  H.J.Kelsall  entered  the  Endau-‐Rompin  area  to  regulate  scientific  research  and  documentation.

!• They  recorded  and  collected  infinite  specimens  from  the  area  and  noted  a  healthy  number  of  large  animals  such  as  elephants,  the  Sumatran  rhinoceros  and  deer  passing  over  the  area.

!• 1933,  with  the  help  of  Lake  and  Kelsall’s  documentation  of  the  area  and  its  flora  and  fauna,  Endau-‐Kluang  area  was  proclaimed  as  a  forest  reserve.  !

• 1972,  the  reserve  was  further  expanded  to  comprise  an  area  within  the  Lesong  Forest  Reserve  in  Pahang.

!• 1985-‐1986,  a  scientific  expedition  identified  25  new  species  of  plants  within  the  area.

!• After  years  of  conflicts,  the  Johor  government  finally  established  this  Endau  Rompin  National  Park  in  1980s.

ARCHES NATIONAL PARK1.The  first  humans  to  inhabit  Arches  NaUonal  Park  were  hunter-‐gatherers  that  came  to  the  area  to  make  tools  like  knives,  darts,  scrapers  and  spearpoints  from  the  microcrystalline  quartz  commonly  found  in  the  region.

!2.Eventually  these  paleolithic  forebears  would  come  to  pracUce  agriculture,  culKvaKng  crops  like  beans,  squash  and  corn  in  the  arid  soil.

!3.These  agrarian  socieUes  would  develop  into  the  Ancestral  Puebloan  and  Fremont  cultures,  which  were  prevalent  throughout  the  southwest  unUl  about  700  years  ago.
