Construction and Infrastructure You’ll like putting things together and making new things from scratch in this Sector. If you are good at visualising what things look like in your head, that’s an asset. Being good at sketching or drawing would be a bonus. It can be exciting and varied – from driving a 30-tonne digger to making something out of nothing. Sometimes what you do changes people’s lives or makes their dreams come true.

Waka Ama Hoe (Paddle making)Northtec

Students will make a wooden paddle for a waka ama. They will design the blade, select and laminate the timber, join the blades to the shaft and then shape their paddle using a variety of hand tools. The paddle will then be finished with Danish Oil.

Day SkipperCoast Guard Boating Education

It is an introductory course for all members of the family or crew and applies to a wide range of vessels - including yachts, launches, powerboats, jet skis, sea kayaks, and waka. The course covers boat handling, safety equipment, navigation, tides, weather, rules and regulations, emergencies, and knots – it is a broad course outlining the whole boating experience.

Restricted Licence PrepNorthtec: Part 1: This student will be able to identify driving hazards and respond to them.Part 2: A one-on-one session that will allow the student to drive a light motor vehicle, identify driving hazards, apply risk reduction techniques and strategies while driving in all driving situations and carry out low speed manoeuvres.
