Construction: Cover Page (Making)

By: Fasiha Zaheer

The blue lines are the margins I have kept when making the magazine as they are necessary because the printing margins are to be kept in mind.

My photograph followed the rule of thirds but I wanted my cover page to be conventional therefore I placed the model in the centre of the page. In order for my photograph to fit the page I had to resize the image in Photoshop using the options (Ctrl+t) also I wanted to put more attention on the model. Hence, when resizing the image I cropped the photograph at the bottom and enlarged the photograph this way more focus will be on the model. I am not going to change the background of the model because the background itself compliments the clothes of the model and makes them stand out.

This is the color I have selected for the masthead because it contrasts with the clothes of the model very well. I rejected the other three colors because they were stealing away the focus from the model and I want the focus to be on the model therefore the green color seems the most appropriate choice of color for the masthead. Its simple and keeping in mind the text to be included such as the cover lines I will be able to keep a color scheme overall which is decent.

The masthead is in front of the face of the model. In my research post codes and conventions of a magazine explained in detail I mentioned the placement that the masthead is behind the models. Hence, I am going to place the masthead behind the model.

 MASTHEAD PLACED BEHIND THE MODEL

Main Cover Lines

"Soha Ali" is in a dark pink color and "Famous Fashion Figure" is in black color. Following the codes and conventions the main cover lines is the second largest text on the cover page. Two different fonts are used "Angelina" for the text "Soha Ali" and "Franklin Gothik" for "Famous Fashion Figure".

Both Serif and San Serif font is used for the cover lines because using the one type of font would have made my magazine really plain and simple. As I planned onto the color scheme, I used a variety of colors sp my magazine does not look dull and a little bit of importance is given to the cover lines this way.. The font sizes are smaller following the conventions of a magazine as compared to the main cover lines. Rest of the colors used are pink, mostly white, orange and green as the color in the coat the model is wearing to balance out the cover page as a whole. As all of these colors make a good contrast with the main image.

Puff

The color scheme for the puff is again pink and white because it is suppose to gain the attention of the audience hence the color combination.

Barcode Website

Barcode placed on the left side and website address placed on the right side. I have placed them this way following the codes and conventions the barcode is placed at the bottom of the magazine however the website address is at the bottom or top of the page.

Issue Date

The date however is usually at the top of the page and therefore I have placed it on the top left of the page above the masthead once again following the codes and conventions.
