TRACER, which is the Texas Labor Market Information source for occupational projections, estimated for the Gulf Coast Workforce Development Area (WDA) an increase of 5,440 in construction managers for the years 2008-2018, a 22.0 percent increase for the time period. TRACER also projected there would be an annual increase of 730 construction managers for the Gulf Coast WDA. SOCRATES (Standardized Occupational Components for Research and Analysis of Trends in Employment System) which is another employment outlook resource had very similar data as TRACER. SOCRATES projects a 23 percent increase in construction manager job openings in the Gulf Coast WDA for the 2008-2018 10-year period. SOCRATES projected there would be an average of 545 new job openings per year during that time period for the Gulf Coast WDA. SOCRATES projected there would be an average of 1645 construction management new job openings for the State of Texas on an annual basis. SOCRATES projected average annual new job openings in construction management of 9,490 per year at the national level. Entry-level workers with an associate degree can expect an estimated starting salary of $40,000 to $45,000.
