Software Used?

Adobe InDesign

In the industry of magazine production, InDesign is used due to its professional outlines and shortcuts with high levels of useful skill. Because of this, I also used InDesign to construct the pages for my music magazine.

Front Cover.

My front cover was probably my hardest to construct, in terms of how pleased I was with the visuality of it. Initially, my use of red, yellow and green looked too primary, and made the cover look unprofessional. I then lowered the opacity of the colours, and felt that this made it look more realistic and made the page ‘flow’ better within itself. Another problem of which I encountered was my dominant cover image. Initially, my model was in the centre of the page and his pose was quite simplistic. To me, this looked too unorganised, and so I changed the photo. In the new shot, my model was posed more, and was placed more to the left of the page. This looked more organised and complimented the busyness of the page.

Contents Page.

Due to my early planning of layout and formatting of my contents page, the construction itself was not as complicated as the other pages. I stuck to my page numbers and content listing of which I had previously thoroughly planned out, but inserted a primary, and secondary, images of which make my page look official and complete. I chose to overlay my content listing above my dominant image as I thought this connected the columns, and it allowed for me to further use layers.

Double Page Spread.

The first step I took in constructing my double page spread was to insert the images. They took up only a small amount of each side of the page, and I found that this was not enough for me to successfully wrap my text around the images (much like I did on my front cover, with the cover lines). I used a predominantly dark palette for this page, and the images of which I used were edited to blend nicely with the background. I believed this did not make the page look too unorganised, but still wasn’t too extravagant, as I took into consideration the fact that this page would be one of many in the magazine.
