1 Fabric consumption calculation: Fabric consumption calculation means to calculate the maximum amount of fabric require to make a garment. Fabric consumption calculation is calculated for individual part of garment and then the consumption for each part of garment is added to find the total consumption. For determination of fabric consumption of any parts of garments, we have to take reading length and maximum width of this part. Then we have to multiply length with width to find out the area of fabric required of this part. Importance of fabric consumption calculation: Fabric consumption determination is a very important term in garments section to find out the quantity of fabrics required to produce a garments as fabric covers the greatest part of garments costing. So we should have better knowledge about fabric consumption calculation. The main reason of this consumption is to bring an assumption over costing of the garments. If calculation is not correct then company will face to huge loss and reputation also fall. 1). Fabric consumption calculation for one dozen men’s tank top:

    Fabric consumption calculation:

Fabric consumption calculation means to calculate the maximum amount of fabric require to make a garment.

    Importance of fabric consumption calculation:

Fabric consumption determination is a very important term in garments section to find out the quantity of fabrics required to produce a garments as fabric covers the greatest part of garments costing. So we should have better knowledge about fabric consumption calculation. The main reason of this consumption is to bring an assumption over costing of the garments. If calculation is not correct then company will face to huge loss and reputation also fall.

    Measurement Chart:

    Parameter Given Estimated with sewing allowance a) Chest 100cm 105cm b) HPS 67cm 72cm c) Arm hole 50cm 52cm e) Neck 50cm 52cm f) Neck width 4cm 5cm

    GSM Given Body 160

    Neck(rib) 220 A/H(rib) 220

    Formula: Consumption per dozen (Cpd) = L x W x 12 x GSM kg 10000000 Where, L = Length & W = Width. A) Cpd (Body) = L x W x 12 x GSM kg 10000000 = 72 x 105 x 12 x 160 kg 10000000 = 1.45 kg @ 12% wastage

    Actual Cpd (Body) = 1.45 kg + 12% wastage

    = 1.6 kg

    B) Cpd (A/H) = L x W x 12 x GSM x 2 kg 10000000 = 52 x 5 x 12 x 220 x 2 kg 10000000 = 0.1372 kg C) Cpd (Neck) = L x W x 12 x GSM kg 10000000 = 52 x 5 x 12 x 220 kg 10000000 = 0.0686 kg

  • 3

Now, Actual Cpd of (A/H + Neck) = (0.1372 + 0.0686) + 20% wastage = 0.2469 kg So, Fabric consumption per dozen = Actual Cpd of (Body + A/H + Neck) = (1.6 + 0.2469) kg = 1.84696 kg = 1.85 kg So, the fabric consumption for mens Tank-top is 1.85 kg per dozen. 2). Measurement Chart: Parameter Given Estimated with sewing allowance

    a) Chest 96cm 102cm b) HPS 65cm 70cm c) Sleeve length 20cm 25cm d) Arm hole 46cm 49cm e) Neck 58cm 61cm f) Neck width 4cm 7cm

    GSM Given Body 150

    Sleeve 150 Neck(rib) 180

    Formula: Consumption per dozen (Cpd) = L x W x 12 x GSM kg 10000000 Where, L = Length & W = Width A) Cpd (Body) = L x W x 12 x GSM kg 10000000 = 70 x 102 x 12 x 150 kg 10000000 = 1.29 kg B) Cpd (Sleeve) = L x W x 12 x GSM x 2 kg 10000000 = 25 x 49 x 12 x 150 x 2 kg 10000000 = 0.44 kg C) Cpd (Neck) = L x W x 12 x GSM kg 10000000 = 61 x 7 x 12 x 180 kg 10000000 = 0.092 kg So, total Cpd = Cpd of (Body + Sleeve + Neck) = (1.28 + 0.44 + 0.09) kg = 1.81 kg

  • 5

Actual Cpd = Total Cpd + 7% wastage = (1.81 + 0.1267) = 1.94 kg So, the fabric consumption for mens T-shirt is 1.94 kg per dozen. 3).Fabric consumption calculation for one dozen mens polo-shirt:

    Parameter Given Estimated

    a) Chest 96 cm 102 cm

    b) HPS 65 cm 70 cm

    c) Sleeve length 20 cm 25 cm

    d) Arm hole 46 cm 49 cm

    e) Collar length 46 cm 46 cm

    f) Collar width 7 cm 10 cm

    g) Cuff length 26 cm 30 cm

    h) Cuff width 3 cm 5cm

    GSM Given Body 180

Sleeve 180 Collar (rib) 220 Cuff (rib) 220

    A) Cpd (Body) = L x W x 12 x GSM kg 10000000 = 70 x 102 x 12 x 180 kg 10000000 = 1.54 kg B) Cpd (Sleeve) = L x W x 12 x GSM x 2 kg 10000000 = 25 x 49 x 12 x 180 x 2 kg 10000000 = 0.53 kg C) Cpd (Collar) = L x W x 12 x GSM kg 10000000 = 46 x 10 x 12 x 220 kg 10000000 = 0.12 kg D) Cpd (Cuff) = L x W x 12 x GSM x 2 kg 10000000 = 30 x 5 x 12 x 220 x 2 kg 10000000 = 0.08 kg Total Cpd = Cpd of (Body + Sleeve + Collar + Cuff) = (1.54 + 0.53 + 0.12 + 0.08) kg = 2.27kg Actual Cpd = 2.27 kg + 7% wastage = (2.27 + 0.16) kg = 2.43 kg So, fabric consumption for one dozen polo-shirts is 2.43 kg.

4). Fabric consumption calculation for one dozen trouser:

    Parts Name Given Estimated

    a) Waist 112 cm 114 cm

    b)Side seam (length) 107 cm 114 cm

    c) Thigh (width) 66 cm 72 cm d) Front rise 28 cm

    e) Back rise 36 cm f) Leg Opening (bottom) 46 cm

    g) G.S.M 200

    Measurement Chart: Cpd = L x W x 12 x GSM x 2 kg 10000000 = 114 x 72 x 12 x 200 x 2 kg 10000000 = 3.93 kg Actual Cpd = (3.93 + 7%) kg = 4.2 kg So, fabric consumption for one dozen Trousers is 4.2 kg.
