Principal Minerals: Copper (chrysocolla) and a little silver.

Work: Two 10' location shafts about 100' apart, and s Olfle trenches of variable dimensions.

Topography: The deposit lies on a low ridge which occupies the east half ofa basin at the base of the Plomosa Nountains o The basin is horseshoe shaped and has apparently formed within the mineralized area. The streams converge near the southwest edge and the basin is bordered on the west, north and east by sharply rising ridges.

Geology: The area consists of schists which appear to have been derived from inter­stratified sediments and volcanics. They vary greatly in bed thickness and density. The thinner beds appear to mineralize more readily than the thicker ones. The laminae are poorly defined, but generally trend N 700 to 800 Wand dip NE.. This is character­istic of the dips and trends in this portion of the Plomosa Mountains.) The schist has been closely fractured by a NE-SW trending shear zone v-Thich extends for several miles to the NE. It crosses the Humdinger, Coiner, Splicer and Gold Nuggett mines further to the northeast. The copper mineralization largely is confined to the fractures and laminae. The thicker beds (PI:9.P,i-1>ly originally composed of sheeted volcanics) have very little disseminated copprr;:;.tA the thinner beds (probably originally composed of sediments) are more evenly mineralized and carry better copper values. In a few places distorted dikes cross the area. Their weathered characteristics indicate basic material, but alteration has been too great for field determination of their original character. Since they were also sheared prior to mineralization, it is believed that they had no part of this mineralization. Accessory minerals include epidote, chlorite, and meager paint coats of iron oxides. The o,xidized capping, which is very meager, shows no de­fini te indications. However, the absence of iron oxides probablyw ould preclude hope of noteable enricbmento Also, since the chrysocolla is widespread and is the main oxide mineral, it is possible that, like Ajo, the hypogene sulphides could be of about the same value as the oxidized material. Therefore, it was 'sugge~ed that drilling or deeper exploration would be required to determine the propert~s potential. The few samples taken s how that the mineralized zones range from 0.5 tofa4% copper, but it generally runs 00 85% Cu. These are very limited in extent.
