Inaugural Grossi Cup
Last Wednesday 9 December, the Student Representative Council (SRC) were proud to hold the inaugural Grossi Cup. The SRC had planned the event to be held in place of annual Rural Cup events that had to be cancelled due to COVID-19. The day was broken up into different sporting events and into boys and girls teams. Years 7 & 10 we paired together and Years 8 & 9 together, with Year 11 students on both teams. There was everything from Netball to Chess to Tug of War, meaning that every student was able to participate in an activity. Our teachers refereed throughout the day and kept tabs on who could be up for the Best and Fairest awards. Once all sports had been played the results were counted and it all came down to the Chess games. Luckily for Years 7 &10 they were victorious in their Chess matches, meaning that they won overall. Their SRC representatives collected the trophy on behalf of their Year Groups. Next, the Best and Fairest participants were announced. After the award ceremony concluded everyone joined in for some ‘Just Dance’ to finish off the day. A special thank you must go out to the students who organised the day and to the teachers who helped make it run smoothly. The Grossi Cup will now become a permanent fixture in Canowindra High Schools Sporting calendar, congratulations to this years SRC for making it happen!

As we enter the final week of school for 2020 and reflect on the year that was it is hard not to think of all the onsite opportunities we have been unable to share with our community but this Tuesday it is fantastic that we can once again welcome parents, albeit in limited numbers, back to our school. Due to COVID restrictions we have, for this year only, brought our Presentation Award ceremony to the day time and have also been able to invite one guest for each of our award recipients. It will be great to have these parents be part of such and important ceremony. A huge congratulations goes to our SRC and supporting staff for what was an amazing day last Wednesday. The inaugural Grossi Cup proved to be a great success and students eagerly participated in the many events. Well done to the overall winners and a big thank you to every student for getting involved. Here’s to a repeat next year. This Thursday we will welcome the release of our 2020 HSC results. Although later this year, and after our school year is over, the staff are eagerly awaiting the news and look forward to being able to acknowledge and celebrate with our students on their success. In advance, well done Year 12! This week we will also be farewelling several of our staff members who are finishing up their time at Canowindra High School. Mrs Kylie Parker and Mrs Nicky Nealon are all to be thanked for their contributions to our school and their commitment to our students learning. We wish them every success in their careers and life beyond Canowindra High School. I would also like to extend best wishes to Mrs Gillian Halstead who will be spending 2021 on a transfer of duty to Aurora. On behalf of the students and staff I would like to thank everyone for their ongoing support throughout 2020. It has been a different year in many ways but it has still been one where our focus remained on the students and their learning both in and outside the classroom. We look forward to working with you again next year and to continue to share in the many different successes of our students. May everyone have a wonderful Christmas with family and friends and a safe and enjoyable holiday. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Mrs Neryle Smurthwaite Principal

Year 7 Excursion On Tuesday December 8 our band of enthusiastic Year 7 students set off to Orange for some much needed team building. The day’s activities? Ten Pin Bowling in the morning and an afternoon at the movies. Our Year 7s managed to post some big numbers on the scoreboard, with strikes coming thick and fast. Many laughs were had as the quality of the bowling varied wildly, either rocks or diamonds, but everyone had a great time. By the time we hit the cinema everyone was ready to take it easy, enjoy some popcorn and get stuck into the film. Reactions to “Dreambuilders” were a bit hit and miss, but it was nice to enjoy the experience nonetheless. A big thank you to Mr Brown, Mr Roberts, Mrs Carslake, Charlie and Suzannah in making the day a success. The students were a pleasure and well behaved for the entire day.

Year 9 Excursion to Orange
On December 10, Year 9 Students enjoyed a day out in Orange. The day was to reward students for their hard work throughout the year and to end on a positive note. We started the morning by heading to the movies and relaxing with friends and munching on popcorn. For lunch we settled on walking to Robinson Park in central Orange. In the afternoon it was time to get our tactical senses going as we headed out for Laser Skirmish in the Kinross State Forest. We were split into 2 teams and began battle. With many people unsure how to even hold the guns let alone hide from the enemy there were many casualties. After a fun and engaging activity that all students enjoyed it was time to pack up and leave for home. As Year Advisor I would like to thank Miss Davis and Mrs Cantril in supporting this great year group. I am looking forward to next year and hope all have a safe and enjoyable break.

Year 10 Excursion to Orange Last Thursday, Year 10 went on a day excursion to Orange to let their hair down after what has turned out to be one of the most difficult years of schooling for them, undoubtedly. In a bid to organise a memorable day, this was their time to have fun together. Year 10 spent the morning geared up playing Lasertag Skirmish at Kinross State Forest. Lunch under the trees of Robertson Park was a welcome relief from the day’s heat before the students headed off to Tenpin Bowls to enjoy a couple of rounds. The students enjoyed the day ahead of the end-of-year celebrations. I would like to thank Mr Rue who joined us and helped make the day go smoothly and without incident.
