On June 9-10, 2015, I participated in the annual symposium of the International Academy for the Study of the Jurisprudence of the Family (IASJF) at Ono Academic College (Faculty of Law) in Israel. While there, (1) I participated in the meeting of the Board of Directors of the IASJF; (2) I presented my paper “Integration and Disintegration in American Family Law: Implications for Children” in the symposium; and (3) I moderated a symposium session.

On June 23-24, 2015, I participated in the Association of American Law Schools Workshop on Shifting Foundations in Family Law, June 23-24, 2015 in Orlando, Florida. (1) I presented my paper on “Images and Illusions of Progressive Change in American Family Law,” and (2) I heard about thirty (30) other scholarly presentations about family law.

On June 25, 2015, I spoke to the J. Reuben Clark Law Society chapter in Orlando, Florida at the law firm of Bogin, Munns & Munns about “National and International Trends re: Same-Sex Marriage.”

Chaired a discussion group of family law and related professors and professionals discussing, and prepared a report concerning, the treatment of pro-life topics and issues in Family Law casebooks in a conference hosted by the University of St. Thomas Journal of Law and Public Policy, Tuesday and Wednesday, November 15-16, 2011, at the University of St. Thomas School of Law (MN). Similar discussion groups and reports focused on Constitutional Law casebooks and Biomedical Ethics casebooks.

Participated in a day-long symposium entitled “Strengthening the Family” at the Provo Marriott Hotel sponsored by Students for the Family, a public interest organization organized and led by two JRCLS graduates, October 29, 2011. Speakers included professors from several universities, professionals from various (mostly helping) disciplines, and students. Presented the closing remarks at the end of the conference entitled “Standing Up for the Family.”

foreign nations. The event was co-sponsored by Marriage and Family Law Research Project at BYU Law School, the Marriage Law Project of the Columbus Law School at The Catholic University of America, and the BYU Journal of Public Law.)

Main co-convener of this Symposium on the Jurisprudence of Extended Families, Extending Families, and Intergenerational Solidarity on April 30-May1, 2012 in Doha, Qatar, as the President of the International Academy for the Study of the Jurisprudence of the Family, with our hosting co-sponsor the Doha International Institute for Family Studies and Development; nearly thirty scholars from North America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East (of various Christian, Muslim, Jewish, Buddhist and no faith backgrounds) participated.

Co-convened the “Symposium on the Jurisprudence of Parenting” at the Aula Magna at the University of Malta in Valletta Malta on July 15-16, 2011, for the International Academy for the Study of the Jurisprudence of the Family. Papers were presented by twenty scholars from eleven nations. I presented a paper "Parenting, Family Fragmentation, and Safety-Nets: Religion and Effective Parenting in Centrifugal Times" in the Symposium.

Co-convened an academic Symposium on the Jurisprudence of Parenting and the Influence of Culture 12-13 May, 2011 at Faculty of Law, Pontificia Universidad Católica Argentina in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Two dozen law professors from the U.S., Spain, Brazil, Chile, and Argentina presented papers, and an additional 30-35 law professors and students attended.

Organized two panels of presenters on “ART, Adoption and the Rights of Children,” in the International Society of Family Law Caribbean Regional Conference in Nassau, The Bahamas, March 17-19, 2011.

Convened a Symposium on Belonging, the Family, and Family Law at BYU Law School on Friday, January 28, 2011. A dozen presenters from various law schools in America and from two foreign universities made presentations.

Convened a one-hour mini-colloquium on the 38th anniversary of Roe v. Wade at BYU Law School on January 21, 2011, with four pro- and con- and two student presentations, including one by me on “The Effects of Roe v. Wade on Life and Law in America.”
