First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)Contemporary Worship Service
Second Sunday of Advent December 4, 2011 11:10am
The Congregation GathersWorship begins with songs, our Advent journey, and the sharing of Christ’s
peace.
Sharing the WordAs part of our service today, we will share stories and read scripture. Today’s
message from Owen Cayton is, "WORSHIPPING: a Partnership of Praise" withscripture from Isaiah 40:1-11 and Mark 1:1-8.
Joys, Concerns and Pastoral PrayerGod’s heart is always open to God’s people and so we are called together to life
celebrations and concerns in prayer. God joins us in our deepest moments ofpain and our greatest moments of joy...and everything in between. We take this
time to pray for ourselves, the church, and the world in word and song.
Sharing of Ourselves and God in ThanksgivingAt the table of God, we offer ourselves and the work of our hands in service to
God and the church in the world. In thanksgiving, we bring financial gifts aswell as gifts of time and energy and sometimes other gifts like
food for the food panty.We also bring bread and cup to place on the table. Communion is observedweekly. This is Christ table and all believers in Him are invited partake. If you
with to participate, please come forward at the invitation to the table.Communion is served by intinction (dipping your bread in the chalice).
The Congregation Scatters to ServeAt the closing of worship, all are invited to commit or recommit ourselves to
following Jesus. We are sent forth into the world in song, charged to bedisciples in our daily lives.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Nursery: Children are always welcome in the service. We do provide a nurseryfor newborn - 3 years old for anyone who prefers to take their little ones there.
Worship and Wonder: In room 117, the children will hear Bible stories andlearn about God while experiencing the presence of God. Children ages 3 to 10are invited to participate during the service. They will gather in the narthex dur-ing the passing of Christ’s peace and go together.
