Paul Madden CATHAOIRLEACH, CLARE TURASÓIREACHT
Clare Tourism is proud to launch an exciting and diverse Clare Festivals & Events Guide for 2017.
Located in the heart of the popular Wild Atlantic Way along the scenic west coast of Ireland, County Clare is home to the world-famous Burren & Cliffs of Moher UNESCO Geopark, the scenically beautiful Loop Head Peninsula, the splendid rivers and lakes of East Clare and the historic county town of Ennis, all located within a short distance of Shannon International Airport.
Clare Tourism, in partnership with Clare County Council, celebrated ‘Clare – County of Culture’ during 2016 which has helped to reinforce the county’s status as an important and vibrant cultural tourism destination.
As Ireland’s Banner County, Clare is once again leading the way during 2017 with hundreds of festivals and events and a range of year round outdoor activities for visitors to choose from.
This guide features activities and events taking place in every corner of Clare. They cover a wide range of interests including music, food, heritage, family entertainment, fashion, theatre, literature and sport.
Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann, which was the highlight event of 2016, returns from 13th - 21st August with a wide ranging programme of Irish music competitions, concerts, launches, lectures and other events.
Clare Tourism invites you to visit County Clare during 2017 and to experience its scenic beauty, award-winning cuisine and its welcoming people, as well as the hundreds of festivals and events taking place throughout the year.

13th – 21st AugustFleadh Cheoil na hÉireann, the world’s greatest celebration of traditional Irish music, song and dance, will be hosted once again in Ennis and County Clare, under the auspices of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann. People travel from all parts of Ireland and overseas to compete at the highest standard, learn from the masters at Scoil Éigse, attend electrifying concerts and recitals, absorb cultural narratives and performances, join in impromptu street sessions and share in the fun and festivities.
It is a unique and welcoming nine-day festival in venues with up to 2,000 seater capacity, while music resounds across the county town’s quaint medieval streets. The festival has a strong family appeal but reaches out to all lovers and would-be lovers of traditional music.
‘The Fleadh down in Ennis,’ immortalised in the song by one of Clare’s finest balladeers, the late Robbie McMahon, will see renowned traditional artists from home and abroad perform during Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2017, drawing thousands to savour the experience of a lifetime.
