A JOINT EFMA AND ACCENTURE INITIATIVE

T he Innovation in Insurance Awards is a joint initiative from Efma and Accenture launched in 2016, which celebrates and promotes innovation in the industry. It encourages insurers to explore new ways of growing their business and shares ideas that might spark further innovation.

This program is split into two major phases:

IDEA COLLECTIONAll insurers are encouraged to identify their most innovative initiatives in

four categories (Customer Experience & Engagement, Best Disruptive Product or Service, Connected Insurance & Ecosystems, and Intelligent Automation) and enter them at: www.efma.com/innovationininsurance.

AWARDS CEREMONYThe best innovation in each category will be awarded during a dedicated

event, open to all insurance and bancassurance players, which will be held in London on 26 April 2017 as part of the Efma Insurance Summit . Moreover, an additional award will be assigned by the Innovation Award Committee in the category of Global Innovator .

GLOBAL INNOVATOR:The most innovative insurer . The winner is the organization whose corporate vision commits it successfully to continuous innovation and transformation, to the development and leadership of a broad ecosystem of partners extending beyond insurance, and to the exploitation of emerging technologies that improve the experience of its customers and the performance of its business .

This is a special awards category with finalists selected based on a review of submissions received in the other four categories by the jury.

CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE & ENGAGEMENT: Innovations aimed at radically changing the way insurance players engage customers at every touch point (both physical and digital) and how they develop a more seamless and personalized experience . Brand new approaches include: new customer management models (service models), omnichannel customer journeys, and innovative management of customer loyalty and satisfaction .

T he Efma–Accenture Innovation in Insurance Awards aims to appraise and recognize the most innovative projects, initiatives and ideas

in insurance at a global level. Winners are awarded by their peers.

The panel of judges for the Insurance in Innovation Awards is comprised exclusively of senior insurance executives from all over the world . Their vote accounts for 50% of the final score, whereas the remaining 50% is the result of voting by Efma members visiting the Innovation in Insurance portal . Winners will be recognised during the Awards Ceremony (26 April 2017, London) in the following five categories .

BEST DISRUPTIVE PRODUCT OR SERVICE: Innovations that enhance, extend or replace the traditional offer, creating new profit pools by serving new customer segments or existing segments in new ways, and entering or creating new markets typically beyond the reach of insurance players .

CONNECTED INSURANCE & ECOSYSTEMS: Innovations that radically enhance the way insurance players engage customers . New approaches may include seamless and personalized experiences across physical and/or digital channels, new customer management (service) models, and innovative management of customer loyalty and satisfaction .

INTELLIGENT AUTOMATION: Innovations that leverage the disruptive power of artificial intelligence technologies (such as intelligent automation, robotics, machine learning etc .) to deliver sophisticated, effective business solutions .

O n 9 June 2016 at the Excelsior Gallia Hotel in Milan, Efma and Accenture announced the winners of the Innovation in

Insurance Awards.

More than 148 institutions from 37 countries around the world submitted 224 case studies of innovations . Participants from around the world attended the event .

GLOBAL INNOVATORAXA Group, France, for its digital insurance model, which includes the Health Keeper health and wellbeing platform; the RUOK digital service, which brings peace of mind to families with isolated seniors; the WellBe social network; and the AXA Drive app, which calculates a “driving score” using data such as acceleration, braking and turns during a trip .

CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE & ENGAGEMENTMS&AD Insurance Group Holdings, Japan, for its dramatic improvement of contact center operations using Watson, which enables high quality responses to increasing customer needs and efficient contact center operations . The system leverages Watson Explorer, Work Force Management System and Oracle Service Cloud .

BEST DISRUPTIVE PRODUCT OR SERVICEEurop Assistance Group, France, for its “Connect et Moi” solution, which leverages Internet of Things (IoT) capabilities to link a behavioral algorithm with an emergency human call center to allow elderly people to live at home securely .

CLAIMS MANAGEMENTAllianz, France, for its “Your expert is in the sky” claims solution, which enables speed, simplicity and reactivity in assessing claims by using drones to examine damage to large buildings .

DIGITAL & OMNI-CHANNEL DISTRIBUTIONUSAA, USA, for its “Digital Virtual Assistant,” which leverages web and mobile channels to allow more members to satisfy their needs without the assistance of a representative .

PLEASE NOTE:• Entries close on 8 March, 2017 . Winners will be announced at an

Awards Ceremony in London on 26 April, 2017 .• There is no entry fee .• Innovations can only be submitted for in the following categories:

Customer Experience & Engagement, Best Disruptive Product or Service, Connected Insurance & Ecosystems, and Intelligent Automation . The judges will select entries for the Global Innovator category .

• To qualify, innovations must have been launched after 1 January, 2015, and must be in at least the pilot phase .

• There is no limit on the number of innovations you may submit .• Only insurance and bancassurance companies may enter the Awards .

Insurtech companies may submit a joint submission together with their clients .

which all insurance companies can contribute to the Innovation Portal by submitting their most innovative initiatives.

Across all categories, an Innovation Committee will shortlist finalists for each award, with a jury of insurance executives and Efma members then voting for the winners .
