What app value looks like to you

“No longer do bookkeepers have to focus on mundane data entry”

Apps connect to accounting software like MYOB Account Right and MYOB Essentials to give added functionality and automation to businesses to be more streamlined. They have revolutionised the way bookkeepers work. No longer do bookkeepers have to focus on mundane data entry, because apps are replacing all of that with the automation that they create.

That automation frees up our time to be able to help more businesses streamline and reach their potential goals. We have the ability to do a different level of work, and we’re able to educate clients through the use of these to run their businesses smoother and more efficiently.

We provide training around financial reporting, we also set up the accounting software, we help them with any app products that need to bolt into the accounting products. And we also provide bookkeeping services to help them progress with their accounting files, and also compliance work, so we help them with their quarterly BAS returns and lodgements, and any support or technical advice that they require.

I’m finding in our business we’re having more and more people come to us, not so much for bookkeeping, but to help

them find the right systems to create automation in their business. So we’ve become advisers in a sense. And by doing this we’re able to help businesses reach their potential goals.

We decided to niche our business by becoming experts in inventory and payroll. So we positioned ourselves as the leading partners for inventory and payroll complexities. And from there we started to look at solutions that helped businesses grow around those areas. We’ve done a lot of work in trying to find the right solutions for particular verticals that work well together with the MYOB accounting product.

We do a lot of cross-referral. Partners will often send work our way, and we in turn also send work their way. We have done quite a lot in the community with training other partners across some of the apps, and it was a great thing, because then we learnt a lot about their businesses. We’re able to then pass work on to them in the specialty areas that they focused on, and in turn they do the same for us. We’ve built a little community around sharing leads and supporting each other’s businesses.

Success for me is not just building a business, it’s also building a brand that is highly regarded in our community. Seeing our customers reach their full potential in their business. If they’re successful then we feel successful.

    CARMEL – SPENCER & CO

What app value looks like to your clients

“We wanted an easier solution that would work for our business”

Carmel didn’t leave the accounting profession to spend more time working on spreadsheets – but that was exactly what she was doing until she discovered the power of MYOB’s app community.

“When I started Spencer & Co, I didn’t want to have to find staff, worry about stock, and look for solutions that would make us be more efficient. We were using 30 hours a month trying to accumulate the information onto spreadsheets and getting data from that.”

That’s why Carmel turned to an MYOB Certified Consultant, Pam Madytianosto help her find the right mix of solutions to solve her problem.

‘We wanted an easier solution that would work for our business, systems that were going to communicate well together.”

    Carmel’s solution:

“The first thing Pam implemented was Kounta to get on top of all of our point of sale needs. Soon after we introduced Deputy, It’s fantastic, it makes us really efficient, staff find it easy to use, it helps us with rostering of employees.

One of the things I love about all the programs that we use, being Deputy, Kounta and, MYOB, is that we can be anywhere around the world, it makes us more efficient because the programs talk to one another and I just basically have to click a couple of buttons to get the reports I need and just to pay staff”

What do apps really mean to Carmel?

“Time! To try and increase revenue, to build this business, maybe even create another and hopefully, to travel!”

    Clearing the water

With so many great tools at your disposal it can be hard to know where to start – who has time to become an expert in over 300 solutions right?

In establishing a shortlist of apps to focus on, we recommend looking at your client base in 2 broad terms:

    1 2

The type of industry they belong to

    The needs they are experiencing

App reading – what to recommend and when?

Our Ecosystem app Community contains a huge range of tools for your clients. While we can’t advise you specifically on which solutions are best for your clients, we can help you identify when an app might be appropriate and what the most widely used ones are.

Below are some key needs to listen out for from clients in particular industries. If you can train yourself to pick up on these, you might be you can develop a clear competitive advantage in becoming an advisor of apps and adding another billable service to your offering.
