    Construction

    Construction

Highly thermally insulated aluminium profile system with

basic depth of 67 mm and angular profile design for the

construction of bi-folding glass doors and window

    elements.

The bi-folding glass door must fold either inwards or

    outwards, depending on the customer’s preference;

folding to the left or right must be possible. Likewise, it

must be possible to realise left and right sliding panel

pairs. One of the design features of the floor-mounted

glass bi-folding system is the separation of the locking

and running levels. In this system, the runner and guide

tracks are fully integrated into the frame system. The

addition of static profiles at the panel joints allows the

construction of glass bi-folding systems for extreme

    requirements (hurricanes, monsoons).

The even gap sizes between the panel profiles keep the

sealing pressure constant, providing high resistance

against driving rain and increased sound insulation. In

order for this to work, it is important to ensure that the

sealing faces on both the inside and the outside are

    continuous.

One of the most important convenience features is the

high ease of operation, due in part to the extremely

good sliding performance of the polyethylene-sheathed

    foam seals in the frame

    SPECIFICATION

    THE ECOLINE BI-FOLDING GLASS DOOR

    Frame

The subframe must be connected using a mitre cut.

It must be mounted on the structure using static

calculation. The subframe profile and floor track must be

bolted onto the structure using load-transferring plates

and integrated sealing cushions with a force-fitted

connection. The system’s built-in adjustment mechanism

in the subframe rebate must allow a total tolerance

setting of 10 mm to be used at all times. The adjustment

    mechanism must be positioned

in front of the sealing face of the subframe and con-

    cealed.

    OPTIONAL

A reversible, multi-functional profile in the frame

conceals the bolt fixture, enables the installation of

further seals, and ensures that the cables are laid along

defined routes and protected from weather damage.

    Modular frame

A modular frame with a continuous floor track can be

used to house a variety of window components. Mul-

lion-transom coupling profiles allow bi-folding glass

doors, tilting windows, turn-and-tilt windows and over-

head panels to be combined without the need to inter-

connect the subframes of the individual components.

This system allows for the use of model elements with

slanted and pointed angles. It must be possible to use

concealed door furniture with tilting or tilt-and-turn

    panels.

    Panels

The panel profiles are angular, and are connected to one

another using mitre cuts. The profile troughs must be

connected to the break profile, which

ensures that there is a loose shear bond in case the sys-

tem is subjected to thermal loads. This multi-functional

break profile is used to mount the locking assembly, the

concealed panel centring mechanism and, optionally, a

seal. The profile sight line for two panels in the panel

joint must not exceed 99 mm.

    OPTIONAL FEATURES

    3S PROTECTION PROFILE

    (FLOOR TRACK TYPES 01 – 03 ONLY)

The 3S protection filler profile reduces the lock slot

in the floor track to a defined width of 5 mm. Drain-

age of the floor track must be guaranteed when such

    a profile is used.

    LOCKING POINT

Additional locking points can be used with the vari-

ous floor tracks for applications such as locking the

folding panel in a ventilation position. The locking

points must be adjustable and mounted either in the

floor track itself (types 1-3) or on the inside, in front

of the floor track (types 04 & 05).

    Door furniture and hinges

    HINGES

The bi-folding glass door is equipped with two visible

panel hinges: one at the top and one at the bottom, at

the panel joint. When used with heavy panels, multi-sec-

tion hinges are seated on ball bearings.

    The hinges are concealed and screwed onto the profiles;

each hinge is fitted with a grub screw to provide addi-

tional burglar resistance and prevent the panel from

being knocked out. In terms of colours, either

E6/C35 or E6/C0 can be used here.

    TWINX® PANEL CENTRING FACILITY

The patented, concealed twinX® panel centring facility is

used instead of additional hinges, and guarantees both

proper sealing and an even joint structure.

    CLEANING PIN (OPTIONAL)

The outsides of the panels can be cleaned form inside

using the patented “cleaning pin”. This allows the panel

joints to be unlocked individually without the hinge pin

getting lost. Thanks to the defined locking points, the

cleaning pin can be used with both paired and non-paired

    bi-folding glass doors.

    SPECIFICATION

    THE ECOLINE BI-FOLDING GLASS DOOR

    8

    Locking and security

All handles and operating elements must use V2A. It

must be possible to lock the bi-folding glass door using

either sliding locks or lockable panels installed at de-

    fined points (controlled ventilation).

    FLAT HANDLE

The panels are locked and unlocked by turning a flat

handle 180°. The construction and bolting system cho-

sen for the flat handle must make it impossible to turn

the flat handle when the bi-folding glass door is closed.

The plastic cushion built into the surface of the handle

prevents direct contact with the panel when it is open.

    LOCK GEAR UNIT

The flat handle actuates a 2-point-gear unit that drives

a push rod 24 mm into the to subframe and an identical

    rod into the floor track.

    LOCKING MECHANISM

If the system has an odd number of panels, the first pan-

el is a swing panel with a 3-point-locking system. As an

option, the bi-folding glass door can be fitted with a set

of lever door handles and a multiple-bolt catch lock with

    profile cylinders on either side.

    COMFORT SNAP®

The patented “comfort snap®” panel snap catch allows

an open swing panel to be locked onto the adjacent fold-

ing panel to prevent incorrect operation when moving

    the panel.

Other optional features include release buzzer, overhead

door closers and bolt locks for bi-folding glass doors

    with no lock gear unit.

    Runner assembly

The panel loads are directed into the floor track by the

runner assemblies and can reach up to 220 kg. The

harmonised stainless steel running track and tapered

track rollers allow for an unguided runner assembly to

minimise operational noise and wear The runner as-

sembly must be fitted with double-row deep-groove ball

bearings and a built-in anti-prying guard. It must be pos-

sible to adjust the height of the runner assembly during

    installation.

    GUIDE ROLLER SUPPORT

As on the floor track at the bottom, the bi-folding glass

door is guided in the top subframe by an aluminium

guide roller support. This is fitted with two roller with

stainless steel bearings and a sliding surface. As an

option, the guide roller support is used with a stopper

when the cleaning pins are in use,

or when a right/left configuration is employed.

    9

    Glazing

The glazing must use continuously engaged glazing bars.

The glass inset and the rebate drainage must be realised

in accordance with the general glazing recommenda-

tions. It must be possible to reverse the dry-glazed

panes at any time. The Ecoline bi-folding glass door

must be able to hold mounted panes of

between 5 mm and 36 mm.

    Security

The bi-folding glass door can be fitted with a variety of

    optional security features.

    GLAZING AND MECHANICAL SECURITY

    FEATURES

Single or multiple-pane structures with TSG, LSG, or

HSG made using LSG are used for the security glass. The

design has been tested and certified by ift Rosenheim

in accordance with EN 1627 RC2, and is equipped with

mechanical safety measures and P4A glazing.

FEATURES FOR OPERATION VIA HOUSEHOLD SECU-

    RITY SYSTEMS

For multi-section pane constructions connected to an

alarm system, a TSG pane is fitted with a passive broken

glass sensor. Information is transmitted contactlessly

between the panel frame and the subframe via an induc-

    tive transmitter and receiver.

The contactless lock monitor uses a reed contact to

monitor whether the bi-folding glass door is mechanical-

    ly locked into the subframe.

The position monitoring system senses the position of

one or more panels using a reed contact in the panel

    frame and the subframe.

In bi-folding glass doors where glass panes are con-

nected to the alarm system, or that have position or

lock monitoring, the wires must be laid concealed in the

    frame.
