Anikait led an effort to Adopt-a-Highway in his localcommunityandwastherecipientoftheVAGovernor'sStewardshipAwardforLandandWaterConservation.HeisCaptainoftheClubSoccerBraddockRoadYouthClubandLakeBraddockVarsityTennisTeam,aswell asavolunteer

As a Bank of AmericaStudentLeader,shehelpeddevelopaprogramattheYMCAtoexposeyouthtomedical careers. Riya participated in her school's first foreign exchange toDurban,SouthAfricaandshecurrentlyservesasaGlobalAmbassadoratherschool,welcomingforeignexchangestudentstotheDMV.RiyaplanstoattendGeorgetownUniversitytostudyhumanscienceonthepre-medtrack. SosinaGebremichaelattendsBenjaminBannekerHighSchoolinWashington,DC.ShehasfoundedaFinancialLiteracyClubandaCodingClubatherschoolandhelpeddevelopaCommunityOrganizingforRacialEquityprogramattheLatinAmericanYouthCentertoengageyouthinracialjusticeadvocacy.Sosinawasappointedto lobbyalongsidethepresidentofCollegeBoardto increasefunding and access to the AP curriculum for low income and rural areas.Additionally, Sosina has completed coursework at Columbia University andNorthwestern University in Psychology and Microeconomics. She plans toattend American University to studyMathematics-Economics and ComputerScience.

BookClubNewsandReviewsOnMonday,April27,elevenmembersoftheBookClubconvenedonaZoomcall forour first-evervirtualdiscussion.TheDCPBKgroupprizes,andoftenchooses,selectionsthatofferanalternativehistoricalnarrative,andBuryMyHeart atWounded Kneeby Dee Brownwas no exception. The book is bydesign a sweeping, difficult read. Brown walks the reader chronologicallythroughNativeAmerican interactionswithwhite settlers, soldiers, traders,and government officials keen to encourage industry, mining, and huntingamongburgeoningtownsonthefrontier.Brownpresentstheexperiencesofmultipletribesandchiefstodemonstratethesystematicdisenfranchisementand violencewrought upon the native population in the name of economy,progress,andcivilization.Itmorethanlivesuptoitsliteraryreputationasaclarion call to educators and the general populace to reconsider long-heldpositive views of Manifest Destiny and American Exceptionalism.
