Welcome Words from Leadership

The President of Yerevan’19

The Editor of Yerevan’19

Let’s make history. Together, coming from the four corners of Europe, we will be making history in the incredible city of Yere-van. We will get the chance to understand pressing social issues from the lens of more than thirty different cultures and nation-alities. We will get the chance to build friendships to overcome distance, to build understanding to overcome differences, and to build an environment for us to be able to express our true selves. Yerevan 2019 will be a moment in time that will keep living with us long after our session ends.

In the past few years EYP has taken a leap. We are becoming much more than young people gathering for small international sessions in the early 1990s could have ever envisioned. That de-velopment has been possible thanks to you - motivated, smart, innovative and persevering delegates becoming inspired by this organisation’s potential and investing your talent into transforming it. Don’t overlook the potential of this session and take advantage of all the opportunities it will offer you. And give back when you are ready.

I hope that the organising team of Yerevan 89 and I will be able to show you the best of Yerevan, with a slice of Armenian charisma, Caucasian hospitality, and EYP mood.

I am thrilled to welcome you all at the Yerevan 2019! Hopefully, the weather will be friendly to all of us, and you will

be able to see how beautiful and colorful Yerevan is at that time of the Year. The Yerevan has always been able to bring diverse cul-tures together. Since the independence of Armenia, this fantastic city has hosted various events, but 89th International Session of the EYP is the biggest youth event ever organised in the country. I believe that all of you will be able to make an immense contribu-tion to the Yerevan 2019, by working hard on your topics, partici-pating in the events that will take place in the scope of the session such as Euroconcert and by representing your cultural heritage in a best possible manner.

Tigran BazarchyanThe Head Organiser of Yerevan’19

About Yerevan

With its history dating back to the 8th century BC Yerevan is known to be one of the oldest capitals in the world. Blessed with ancient history and colorful culture, historical landmarks and natural attractions, unique architecture and masterpieces of An-cient era, added to the eastern hospitality of the friendly locals and the splendor of Armenian diverse culinary delights, Yerevan is Armenia’s vibrant capital and the largest city, where past and present meet. Being on the crossroads of West and East, the city has harmoniously combined the best of the two. The 2800 years old Yerevan is home for numerous galleries and museums, notably, the Mesrop Mashtots Institute of Ancient Manuscripts also known as Matenadaran.

The Republic Square, the Opera House, the Cascade and the Government Building are just a few of architectural jewels that Yerevan has, which we attempted to highlight in our logo. The inspiration behind the logo of the Yerevan’19 came from the geo-graphical location of Yerevan, as well as the mixed architectural heritage of the city, which contains patterns from both Eastern and Western styles. The shapes in the logo present the elements most frequently found in different architectural monuments in Yerevan. Furthermore, the logo itself is the combination of first three letters of the Armenian unique alphabet, created in the 4th century.

Session Theme and Motto

The theme of 89th International Session is “Where East Meets West”. Yerevan has always been on the crossroads of different cul-tures. The city was able to unite the best practices of culture from both east and west. The overall program of the session will include activities that will emphasize cultural uniqueness of the city and the Armenian culture in general.

The academic programme will be shaped in accordance with the motto of the session “Overcoming Global Challenges Togeth-er”. The European Youth Parliament Armenia is striving to shape the future generation of active citizens, through raising awareness on social, economic and legal issues the world is facing current-ly. The academic theme and umbrella topic of the session will challenge the participants to tackle the issues concerning human rights, energy and security, cooperation between EU, EaP coun-tries and the world in general. The end goal of the Yerevan 2019 is to take a step forward in the development of young individuals to boost their academic knowledge and communication skills, as well as emphasize the most valuable resource: young citizens.

In case of failure to follow the aforementioned rule the delegate will be sent home at their own expense.

1. Only alcoholic beverages under the threshold of 15% Alcohol by Volume will be permitted at the session to participants over the age of 18 due to restrictions imposed by Armenian law and the policies of the European Youth Parliament.

4. The Organising Team as well as the Board of EYP Armenia reserves the right to confiscate alco-holic drinks on grounds of high alcohol content, underaged drinking or overindulgence. Session participants who are not underaged may collect their confiscated alcoholic beverages at the end of the International Session.

If a participant uses drugs or is found to be in the possession of drugs, they will be removed from the session and sent home at their own expense. The participation fee will not be refunded. Any possession of hard drugs will be reported to the police and could result in an arrest.
