Welcome from the Mayor
A warm welcome to the Cleve district, a welcoming and friendly community.
Cleve, nestled at the foothills of the Yeldulknie Conservation Park, is a great spot to
stop. With a RV friendly site, caravan park, hotel and boutique accommodation on
offer, Cleve is an ideal location for passers-by.
The township of Cleve is Eastern Eyre Peninsula’s largest business town, offering
substantial shopping, health and educational services, as well as recreational and
sporting facilities. Cleve has a reputable medical centre, hospital and aged care
facility.
At present there are many recreational clubs in our district, two bowling clubs with
excellent greens and a unique picturesque golf course meandering through the
Cleve township.
The Cleve Area School offers preschool, primary and secondary education, as
well as providing a community library and swimming pool. Sims Farm is renowned
for its quality agricultural education also.
Nearby, Arno Bay has pristine beaches, excellent fishing with boat ramp access
and boat harbour facilities. Explore the award winning wheel-chair friendly
boardwalk, showcasing the estuary mangroves and marine life, or Turnbull Park
and thee amenities at the foreshore.
There are picturesque scenic drives through the Cleve Hills, Darke Peak Range and
Carappee Hill Conservation Park. They are all great spots to visit, camp or picnic.
Just five minutes out of Cleve is the state heritage-listed Yeldulknie Weir & Reservoir,
boasting fabulous recreation and barbeque facilities in a picturesque setting as
well as the newly developed 5km walking and cycling trail from the township.
Welcome to our community, I trust you will enjoy visiting or living here as much as
we do.

Cleve Area School
Cleve Area School strives for excellence and works in partnership with the
community to deliver a quality service to the students.
One of the many positive aspects of our school is the enormous support,
involvement and cooperation we gain from parents, families, businesses and the
general community. Improving literacy, numeracy skills, student achievement and
well-being has continued to underpin the learning activities across reception
through to year 12 students.
As a school we continue to provide a balanced, comprehensive and progressive
curriculum. We offer pathways that prepare students for tertiary studies,
traineeships, employment and for life beyond school. Students can complete all
of their secondary studies at Cleve and have the opportunity to enter university.
Sims Farm
Cleve Area School offers an accredited Certificate in Agriculture course. Cleve has
a skills and trade training centre based at Sims Farm, a 400 hectare property
where students can learn practical skills specialising in dryland farming.
The Certificate in Agriculture course attracts students from all areas of the Eyre
Peninsula and around South Australia. The emphasis is on a “hands-on” approach
to education; and many components of the course are competency-based.
Contact Cleve Area School on 08 8628 2104 or visit the schools website for more
information.

TAFE SA
As the largest provider of vocational education and training on the Eyre Peninsula,
TAFE SA is proud of its role in helping people find jobs and develop career paths.
TAFE SA works with industry and businesses to develop and deliver high quality
education and training that is tailored to industry needs and contributes to a
skilled workforce in communities across South Australia.
Many educational opportunities for the Eyre Peninsula are not advertised on the
TAFE SA website. For more information on training opportunities available, contact
TAFE SA staff.

Employment
Mining has not previously dominated Eyre Peninsula’s economy, but this is about
to change. The Eyre Peninsula is rapidly becoming one of Australia’s most
promising emerging mineral frontiers. Exploration activity has already identified
significant prospects in recent years including: heavy mineral sands, kaolin, gold,
silver, nickel, copper, graphite and iron ore in the northern and western parts of
the region.
The agricultural sector is another major employer, with bulk grain handling
facilities located in several towns. There are also numerous agricultural and
mechanical businesses in the district servicing this industry.
On the coast, Arno Bay is fast gaining a reputation as an aquaculture hub, with
industry leader Clean Seas Tuna Ltd choosing the town as the location for the
world’s first on-land Southern Blue Fin Tuna hatchery.
The largest wind farm on the Eyre Peninsula is Mt Millar. It is also located close to
the Cleve township.
Transport and service industries are other significant employers. Government
services located in Cleve include SA Water, SA Power Networks, Eastern Eyre
Health & Aged Care, and Eyre Peninsula Natural Resource Management.
Small business opportunities, particularly in the tourism, retail and service
industries also exist, and Council welcomes enquiries from business people
considering such ventures.
For information on local employment opportunities, read the Eyre Peninsula
Tribune newspaper, as well as other regional newspapers such as Whyalla News,
West Coast Sentinel and the Port Lincoln Times.
