Introduction: Our chosen subject for task 3 had to be
specifically focused on Maltese traditions and culture.
We researched a variety of Bizzilla and Gannutell.
![Page 3: Contextual studies task 4:presentation.Eman scorfna + Lyanne sawyer](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022062903/588aae001a28ab4c308b6a77/html5/thumbnails/3.jpg)
Bizzilla. (Lace) The 'Bizzilla' craft florished in Malta
more or less in the middle 17th century. Found all over the islands especially in
crafts villages and the most traditional areas.

Origins.Maltese lace is a direct descendant of the genoise lace. It is said a special group of gozitan women became specialized, they studied the technique further.
![Page 5: Contextual studies task 4:presentation.Eman scorfna + Lyanne sawyer](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022062903/588aae001a28ab4c308b6a77/html5/thumbnails/5.jpg)
Bobbin Lace.Different types of laces include Bobbin lace, made of various threads each tied together to what is called a spoon or bobbin. Maltese term 'Ghazel' is used to describe the technique.
![Page 6: Contextual studies task 4:presentation.Eman scorfna + Lyanne sawyer](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022062903/588aae001a28ab4c308b6a77/html5/thumbnails/6.jpg)
About this Tradition. Our Maltese seniors still use the same
points and techniques and it never really changed.
The commercial potential of Maltese bobbin lace went on to influence China and India.

Ganutell. For my part of this presentation ,I am
passing around a couple of ganutell flowers as visual reference. Enjoy.
![Page 13: Contextual studies task 4:presentation.Eman scorfna + Lyanne sawyer](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022062903/588aae001a28ab4c308b6a77/html5/thumbnails/13.jpg)
Introduction to ganutell. I researched traditional Maltese
“Ganutell” as reference to our culture. “Ganutell” is a Maltese tradition, an art
form of making artificial flowers with the use of wire, treads and beads.
![Page 14: Contextual studies task 4:presentation.Eman scorfna + Lyanne sawyer](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022062903/588aae001a28ab4c308b6a77/html5/thumbnails/14.jpg)
Origins. “Ganutell” was mostly found in the
18th and 19th century. This form of art was derived from the
Italian ‘Cannotiglio’ which was introduced to Malta in the early 18th century from mainland Europe.
The way this craft eventually evolved has practically made it distinctively Maltese.
![Page 15: Contextual studies task 4:presentation.Eman scorfna + Lyanne sawyer](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022062903/588aae001a28ab4c308b6a77/html5/thumbnails/15.jpg)
This beautiful form of art..

Artisanal.(handmade.) This type of flowering art is joined by the
name artisanal, because it’s handmade. Amongst most of the traditional and cultural Maltese “Bizzilla”.

Ganutell: Process & techniques. There is a variety of techniques used in
the process of making one of these wonderful creations.
The smaller flowers would be worked with silk being threaded from one side to the other of the border of the petal.
![Page 18: Contextual studies task 4:presentation.Eman scorfna + Lyanne sawyer](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022062903/588aae001a28ab4c308b6a77/html5/thumbnails/18.jpg)
Image on the right hand side shows a simple process on how a poppy artificial flower is done.

Early years, Usage of Ganutell. In the early 18th and 19th century, the
most beautiful ornaments consisted of bouquets of flowers, they would be used to decorate hallways and sitting room and the altars of churches.
