NEWS AAE Honors Dr. Vincent B. Milas [ On July 13, 1984, a dinner was given by the AAE in honor of Dr. Vincent B. Milas. Held at the 95th Club atop the John Hancock building in Chicago, the ceremony paid thanks to Dr. Milas for over 42 years of dedicated service to the Association. Dr. Milas, who recently turned 80, was educated in Chicago, attended Northwestern University and received his DDS degree from Chicago College of Dental Surgery (Loyola) in 1927. Dr. Milas practiced dentistry in Chi- cago for 50 years and is well-known for his active role and many contributions to organized dentistry. He was presi- dent of the Englewood Branch of the Chicago Dental Society, 1942 Chair- man of the Midwinter Meeting of the Chicago Dental Society, a director of the society from 1938-1941, and its treasurer and vice-president from 1945-48. He was a member of the Ex- ecutive Council of the Illinois State Dental Society from 1963-66, a dele- gate and/or alternate to the House of Delegates of the American Dental Association, a member of the Council on Dental Research and chairman of the Endodontic Section of the Council on Scientific Sessions. Dr. Milas is active in the Odonto- graphic Society of Chicago, the American Academy of the History of Dentistry, the Illinois State Legislative Interest Committee, the American Col- lege of Dentistry, International College of Dentistry, Omicron Kappa Upsilon, Psi Omega and the Loyola University Alumni Association from which he re- ceived the Alumni Award. Dr. Milas was one of 19 men present at the meeting called on February 25, 1943 by W. Clyde Davis, John H. Hospers and Louis I Grossman. This was the first meeting of what would later become the American Associa- tion of Endodontists. Dr. Milas presided over banquet and local arrangements for subsequent meetings of the group and, in 1948, was elected treasurer of the Association, thus beginning his 36 year career as an elected or appointed officer which ended with his resigna- tion as historian in April 1984. Dr. Milas was the AAE secreiary from 1952-61, vice-president from 1961-1962, president from 1962-1963 and historian from 1960-1984. He is not only a founder of our Association but also a charter Dipiomate of the American Board of Endodontics (1963) and a charter and Honorary member of the Edgar D. Coolidge Endodontic Study Club. In his testimonial to Dr. Milas, presented at the dinner, current historian Dr. Michael A. Heuer said "No one will ever know, let alone truly appreciate, the full extent of the dedication and devotion that Vincent B. Milas has given to organized endodon- tics in America." Dr. and Mrs. Vincent B. Milas AAE Members to Speak Session Several AAE members are scheduled to give presentations at the annual ses- sion of the ADA October 20-25, 1984 in Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. Herbert Schilder will speak on "Endodontics for Fun and Profit," Dr. Harold Stanley will speak on "The Pulp's Struggle to Survive" and Dr. Noah Chivian will be the co-presentor of a session on intra- oral photography entitled "Say it with Pictures" and "May I have the First Slide Please?". A workshop on "Fun- damentals of Endodontic Surgery" will be presented by Drs. James L. Gut- mann, John W. Harrison, Eduardo E. Ruiz, Eric J. Hovland, Thomas C.
