Save a life! Drive defensively! More than 43,000 people lose their lives inmotor vehicle crashes each year, and over two million more suffer dis-abling injuries, according to the National Safety Council. For teenagers, cars are still the leading cause of death. “Death by driv-ing” is the third highest preventable cause of death. The triple threat of high speeds, impaired orcareless driving and not using occupantrestraints threatens every driver, regardless ofhow careful or how skilled. Driving defensivelymeans not only taking responsibility for your-self and your actions, but also keeping an eyeon "the other guy." GC is proud to be your part-ner in striving to prevent automobile acci-dents. In addition, you can save money on your

auto insurance (or, parents can save money on your teenager’s insurance!)by successfully completing this National Safety Council Defensive Drivingcourse. Georgia Senate Bill 433 requires insurance companies in Georgiato give families with good driving experience a 10 percent discount on por-tions of their auto insurance upon completion of this course. Eligibility for

the discount will continue for three years, provided that no drivercommits a moving traffic offense or has a claim against the policy

based on an at-fault accident. Consult with your insuranceagent to determine exactly how completion of this programwill affect your insurance rates. Please bring paper andpencils to class. This course is not for points reduction.

Plein Air Painting at the Oconee RiverGreenway and the Macon River WalkPlein air painting, a term derived from the French phrase en plein air, literally means “in the open air.” It's a familiar concept today, but in thelate 1800s when the Impressionists ventured out of their studios intonature to investigate and capture the effects of sunlight and differenttimes of days on a subject, it was quite revolutionary. Your subject mat-ter, as well as your medium, is entirely up to you as you discover themany ways to achieve the results you desire with your painting using dif-ferent techniques, tools, colors and composition to complete your paint-ing. The instructor will demonstrate, lecture, critique and provide indi-vidualized instruction. You will focus on what you see, not what you canimagine or intellectualize about the subject. Register early to receive alist of supplies you need to bring to the workshop. This workshop is forages 15 and up. We will meet at the main entrance to the Oconee RiverGreenway in Milledgeville and the main entrance to the River Walk onSpring Street in Macon. Since this is an outdoor workshop, you will benotified if inclement weather prevents the class from meeting. Themake-up date will be the next Saturday.

CPR/AED Certification for Adults, Children and InfantsCPR is an emergency procedure used to revive an adult, child or infant whohas stopped breathing and/or whose heart isn’t beating. Such incidencescan occur following drowning, heart attacks, strokes, severe allergic reac-tions, electrocutions, or may be due to Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA).

SCA is caused by problems with the heart's electrical system causing irregu-lar heartbeats resulting in the heart stopping. If SCA is the emergency, onceCPR has been performed and the heart is beating again, the use of anAutomated External Defibrillator (AED) can restore a normal beat to aheart. These portable AED devices are often found in public places, such asshopping malls, golf courses, businesses, airports, airplanes, casinos, con-vention centers, hotels, sports venues and schools.

This OSHA approved Red Cross course gives you, wherever you are, theknowledge and skills necessary to recognize and care for such injuries andsudden illnesses.
