Advanced Stroke Life Support®

(ASLS)ASLS is a practical, hands-on, eight-hour course that was developed by experts in stroke, emergency medicine, prehospital care and nursing education through The Michael S. Gordon Center for Research in Medical Education at the University of Miami. It provides a unique neurological assessment tool-the MEND exam-ideal for both prehospital and hospital use and satisfies the educational requirements for Joint Commission-certified stroke centers. A key feature of the ASLS® curriculum is hands-on skills training, during which instructors simulate stroke syndromes, and learners perform the MEND Examination, a unique neurological assessment tool developed with the course. Computer-based multimedia skills training, interactive discussions and didactic sessions are also components of the curriculum. Participants learn to describe why early treatment may result in a marked reduction in risk of disability, identify the five main stroke syndromes and relate them to pathophysiology and clinical signs and perform focused evaluation to identify stroke, its location and severity, and t-PA contraindications. To receive certification in ASLS, you must take the course through MCC, an approved ASLS training center taught by certified instructors. The cost of the class includes certification card and CEU hours.

Yoga One of the most popular fitness and static stretching activities. A typical yoga session will move the spine and joints through their full range of motion which incorporates a three mountain workout (warm-up, work phase, deep stretch and strength). Yoga postures lengthen, strengthen and balance musculature, leading to increased flexibility, stamina and strength. This is a great course to work on strength and flexibility.
