Continuing Professional Development at Drapers’ Academy

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is a key element of the work that we do at Drapers’ Academy. By developing staff, a school is ultimately enhancing the learning of their students. We recognise the importance of excellent support for all staff and have developed a comprehensive CPD program which is designed to develop the professional practice of staff over time, as well as build capacity.

In addition to sessions on our designated INSET days and the six compulsory Twilight sessions over the course of the year, a range of additional training sessions have been scheduled. The sessions detailed indicate which are compulsory or optional for all staff. There is an expectation that ALL qualified teaching staff attend at least two of the optional sessions across the year in order to develop their pedagogy. Staff will be asked to indicate which two sessions they will attend and are advised to select sessions that support their performance management targets.

At the end of every CPD session, staff are required to commit to identifying one action following the training and to review the quality of the training.

Staff may also request external CPD, using the proforma provided at the end of this booklet, and are encouraged to visit other schools to share good practice. In addition, every Thursday morning at 8:20 a.m. in the Staffroom, staff participate in an active Teaching and Learning briefing, organised by Andrew Luck, Lead Practitioner. As part of a teacher’s own professional development, leading a briefing is encouraged.

We have:

- 2 days disaggregated that equate to 12 hours of Twilight time 2(six 2hr sessions, one each half term)

- 2 Inset days at the start of the academic year - 1 Inset day (14th February) – finishing at 12.30pm (3 hours allocated for peer

coaching)
