MOTIVATIONAL LETTER

I am Liza Maria Rouly, third year medical student at the University of Pelita Harapan, fascinated with the magnificent of healing through the medical world. As our famous saying of “Through knowledge, Faith in Christ, and Godly character,” the root of it all began in touching people’s lives by the sense of healing as described in our University remarkable quotation of Godly character. I am inspired with the existence and contribution of doctor, which puts many essential effects in human lives from generation to generation.

Having lived in Indonesia all my life; makes me amazed by the perspective of Indonesian toward doctors. In Indonesia, doctor is highly appreciated not only as a profession, but also as a community leader, decision maker, advisor, manager, and communicator. It is easy to become a doctor. Why? By attending the class regulary and pass all the exams, we can graduate within 5 or 6 years. How about becoming a “good” doctor? Where we are not only having the brain, but most importantly, the heart. Heart of a doctor contains integrity, professionalism, and spiritualism. With all that, we can do justice, beneficience, non-malificience, and autonomy efficiently and appropriately. To become a good doctor, one must not only know about the science of diseases, but also recognize the current events in our surroundings. The Mandala’s diagram depicts a human being as part of a system, not only as an individual. In addition, a heart of a doctor must have one essential aspect, which is conducting a research. Medicine is a life long study, diseases evolving rapidly, with the up to date information and numerous researches, we can help our world to become better.

Giving is my number one priority in life. By giving, I can reach people closer to God. Money, food, and objects may soon be ceased. However, giving my knowledge, teaching my juniors, and sharing my thoughts within my fellow medical students will stay forever. With all of my abilities, I would like to make my community, university, and country proud. It is time for me to start giving back to the people with the small talent that I have.

Gamma Theta Upsilon has a wonderful program in giving back to the students as a commitment of becoming a great doctor in the future. With that reason, I would like to join and becoming an active member of Gamma Theta Upsilon. I believe I am on the right track and aboard an honorable, elite, and prestigious organization in the University of Pelita Harapan.
