Control is the process of comparing actualperformance with established standards, for thepurpose of taking corrective action to correctdeviations.

The basic purpose of control system is to ensurethat results are achieved according to plan.

MILK PRODUCTS LIMITED

Milk Products Limited is engaged in collecting ,processing , and distributing milk and milk productsin a large city in south India. Most of the products ofthe company are such that these have to bedistributed on daily basis. The company has a crewof distributors who approach the fixed customers,both bulk buyers and individuals. Mr. K . Ramesh

joined the crew of distributors after graduating incommerce . The distribution manager was quiteimpressed by Mr. R. Ramesh but initially could notoffer him a better job than that of a distributor .

However , he promised to give him betteropportunity whenever available . Mr. R. Ramesh

joined gladly.

overtime pay. The pace becomes hectic towardsthe end of the day with some overtime to meetthe distribution schedule. There is no groupleader but there are several old – timers whoinfluence newcomers regarding the work rules.Mr. R. Ramesh did not like this method ofworking but had to follow the group to be a goodteam mate. He gathered that over the years, thecompany had paid around sixty per centovertime unnecessarily.

.supervisor was to look after the distributionsystem and to develop new customers in agiven area. Beside, Mr. Ramesh, there were

four other supervisor also. Ramesh was sure ofmaking distribution system effective as he wasaware about the delaying tactics of the crew. Hewas quite sure about cutting the overtime costand impressing upon the manager about fixingthe quota of work per day in two parts-beforelunch and after lunch. The distribution managerwas convinced and introduced the system.However, the efficiency dropped downconsiderably and no crew member was nearthe target.
