CONVENTION jj his year, there seems to be a wow-factor for Boston," said Convention Division Manager Renee Aubin about the upcoming 89th Lions Clubs International Convention in Boston, Massachusetts. By early May, pre-registration figures reached approximately 11 ,000 registrants. Registration for the Boston convention is stronger than it has been for a Lions Clubs International Convention located within the United States in the past five years. "We believe a new convention location and weekend schedule are helping to drive our numbers up," said Renee. LCI international conventions in the New England area are rare. This year is the first time Boston will host an LCI international convention. A highlight of every international convention is the Lions International Parade. This year’s parade will travel through the streets of Boston and disperse at Boston Common. Other events continuing this year are the Lions International Performance Festival, Environmental Photo Contest Awards Ceremony, LCIF Reception, International Academy Awards Banquet, three plenary sessions and voting. This year the Lions clubs of Massachusetts and Special Olympics Massachusetts will conduct an Opening Eyes vision screening for Special Olympics athletes and distribute eyeweor. New items to watch for this year include the National Education for Assistance Dog Service Graduation Program; the International Show, featuring Ann-Margret; the inaugural STRIDES walk and many innovative seminars. Lions and LCI employees not attending the Boston convention can still participate by visiting the Online Convention located on the Lions Clubs International Web site. The Online Convention, updated daily during the convention, includes photos of daily events, daily messages from International President Ashok Mehta, the Daily Schedule, ordering information for the Convention Highlights DYD and convention photos, an Upcoming Convention Schedule and preview, and June 2006, Volume 13, Issue 6 results of the parade, International Contest, Lions Environmental Photo Contest, Academy Awards and election. "Overall, the comments we are receiving from the registrants are very positive. Everyone is about going to - Boston over the 4th of July holiday," said Renee. "We hope the convention leave an indelible impact on our attendees and that many will leave saying, ‘Wow! I can’t wait until the Chicago convention next year!" "Nothing good happens after 2:00 a.m.!"- Corina Gallardo, New Clubs & Marketing

"Everyone is going to submit the advice about wearing clean underwear, but inaddition to that one, my mom said I should always ‘march to a differentdrummer.’ This is not easy to do, especially when you are a teenager becauseyou want to be like the other kids. But through the years I have tried to follow thisadvice. To thine own self be true. Another favorite is the "Golden Rule," whichhas always been a guideline for me. I also passed this on to my daughters, and Ihope they are passing it on to their kids, and so on, and so on, and so on."- Joyce Truby, Public Relations...S..S..SS.S....S.S...I.....S.S.........eSS.
