Cooperation, Collaboration& Consortia Issues

Of all the buzz words used in the school library media profession, “collaboration” evokes the strongest feeling. _Carl A. Harvey II, 2008

No individual has sufficient experience, education, native ability, and knowledge to ensure the accumulation of a great fortune, without cooperation of the people._ Napoleon Hill

Cooperation- involves the exchange of something between the partners with each gaining something from the cooperative effort, but not necessarily equal benefits.

Collaboration- combining resources with others in order to produce a “a new value” that equally benefits all the partners.

Consortia – formal structures that pool resources of members to achieve benefit that are, or may be, too costly or at a lower cost than any one member could realize independent.

Groups can easily fall into the trap of “groupthink.”

Building trust is always in group decision making.

In consortial decisions involve the four C’s : concessions, consensus, consideration and coalitions.
