1.Acetylene Generator

2. CONDENSOR

The medium pressure UA acetylene generator is stationary

carbide to water automatic generator with twin hoppers.

Acetylene is generated as a result of the chemical reaction

between calcium carbide and water. The generator is designed

to generate acetylene at a pressure of 7 psi.

The condensor cools and purifies the gas thereby condensing the

excessive moisture. Cooling water is circulated on the shell side

from bottom to top .Condenser is designed to suit all local conditions

provided sufficient water flow is maintained.

The solid anhydrous calcium chloride at atleast 80% purity in this

pressure vessel absorbs the moisture in the gas. It becomes fluid

and is collected at the bottom and drained.

This vessel divided into 2 sections by wire mesh framework , each

section charged of purifying mass. The chemicals in the purifying

mass absorbs impurities like HS, phosgene.2

This equipment is a vertical vessel of Boschi Italy design with

a level gauge and water make-up line. A particular level as

marked on the level indicator has to be maintained for efficient

WORKING .All the water soluble impurities like ammonia are

scrubbed/removed in the Ammonia scrubber.

The acetylene compressor is a multi-stage compressor which is immersed in a

water tank to avoid any pressurized gas to come in contact with air and also to

make sure that all the components are continuously cooled for highest safety .

The compressor is driven by a flame proof electric motor .

QUALITY 6.2 Materials of construction Materials of construction shall withstand the mechanical, chemical and thermal constraints that may appear during

normal operating conditions. Materials shall not react with the substances with which they come into contact. The

materials should not cause adverse reactions with acetylene, solvents, carbide and other products generated from

carbide. Because acetylene may form explosive compounds with copper, silver and mercury, these metals are

prohibited in the construction and maintenance of acetylene systems. Some alloys containing restricted amounts

of these metals may be used.
