What is good posture?
Posture is the position in which you hold
your body upright against gravity while
standing, sitting or lying down. Good
posture involves training your body to
stand, walk, sit and lie in positions where
the least strain is placed on supporting
muscles and ligaments during movement
or weight-bearing activities.

Thirty-three vertebrae are named
according to their location:
seven cervical (neck) vertebrae,
twelve thoracic ( chest) vertebrae,
five lumbar (lower back) vertebrae,
five sacral vertebrae fused to form
the sacrum,
three to five coccygeal vertebrae
fused into one coccyx.

•When viewed from the side, the vertebral column has four normal curvatures named for their location.
•The cervical and lumbar curvatures are convex anteriorly
•The thoracic and sacral curvatures are concave anteriorly.
•In the fetus, the vertebral column has but one curve-concave anteriorly.

Inappropriate Posture
Today, more than ever,
our days are spent in a
sitting position. In addition
to the long hours at work
We continue to sit while
driving, dining, at concerts
or the theater or at home
watching television or
working at the computer,
unknowingly stressing our
neck, shoulders and back.

Some Advice
Keep head up and
shoulders back and down.
Any forward position as in
writing should be held by
using hips as a hinge,
keeping the body straight
Do not slump while sitting

Learn to lift in line of gravity.
Squat down with a straight back
and lift with the legs.

Life and Health
PHJ, May 1, 1905 par. 12
In order to secure the most healthful clothing, the
needs of every part of the body must be
carefully studied. The character of the climate,
the surroundings, the condition of health, the
age, and the occupation of the individual must
all be considered.
![Page 13: Copy of posture, breathing and clothing revised jason version](https://reader033.vdocuments.net/reader033/viewer/2022060205/55a0debd1a28ab6c2f8b45ce/html5/thumbnails/13.jpg)
Health in Dress is of Vital Importance!
Tight clothing has health
implications. It can
significantly restrict
diaphragmatic breathing.
According to further research
chronic venous insufficiency
has been found to be directly
linked to tight clothing, in
combination with overweight
and a low-fiber diet with
resultant straining.

Perfect health requires a
perfect circulation

Another evil which custom fosters is the unequal distribution of the clothing, so that while some parts of the body have more than is required, others are insufficiently clad. The feet and limbs, being remote from the vital organs, should be especially guarded from cold by abundant clothing. It is impossible to have health when the extremities are habitually cold; for if there is too little blood in them, there will be too much in other portions of the body. Perfect health requires a perfect circulation; but this can not be had while three or four times as much clothing is worn upon the body, where the vital organs are situated, as upon the feet and limbs.
PHJ, May 1, 1905 par. 9

In cold climates the suit should be thick and warm,
and should extend to the ankles and wrists; in
very cold weather a second suit may be added.
The feet should be protected from cold and
dampness by warm stockings, and by easy-
fitting, thick-soled shoes.

Cancer, Diseases and Circulation
Because it is the fashion, many females place over their breasts paddings, to give the form the appearance of well-developed breasts. These appendages attract the blood to the chest, and produce a dry, irritating heat. The veins, because of unnatural heat, become contracted, and the natural circulation is obstructed. These appendages, in connection with other bad habits of dressing and eating, result in obstructing the process of nature, making a healthy development of the breasts impossible. And if these become mothers, there cannot be a natural secretion of the fluids, to have a sufficient supply of nourishment for their offspring.

A Recent Article by Nguyen Phawk
Yu, M.D.
In the "Bra and Breast Cancer Study" in the United States, it was discovered that women with breast cancer had a history of sporting tighter and longer bra-wearing than did the women who had not (yet) developed the disease. In fact, virtually all of the cancer group wore bras over 12 hours daily with 18% even sleeping with their bras which means they wore bras 24 hours daily. In contrast, the comparison groups had 25% of the women either bra-free or wearing bras less than 12 hours daily. Only 3% of this group slept with their bras on. This study revealed a significant link between bras and breast cancer that is three times greater than the link between cigarette smoking and lung cancer!
![Page 20: Copy of posture, breathing and clothing revised jason version](https://reader033.vdocuments.net/reader033/viewer/2022060205/55a0debd1a28ab6c2f8b45ce/html5/thumbnails/20.jpg)
Singer and Grismaijer
Women who wore their bras 24 hours per day had a 3 out of 4 chance of developing breast cancer (in their study, n=2056 for the cancer group and n=2674 for the standard group).
Women who wore bras more than 12 hour per day but not to bed had a 1 out of 7 risk.
Women who wore their bras less than 12 hours per day had a 1 out of 152 risk.
Women who wore bras rarely or never had a 1 out of 168 chance of getting breast cancer. The overall difference between 24 hour wearing and not at all was a 125-fold difference.

Tight Underwear/Pants
Another common cause of low sperm count is tight underwear. If you are wearing briefs or “tighty whitey’s” Switch to boxers. The testicles have to be at an exact body temperature to produce healthy sperm. So your body has a muscle that lowers and raises the testicles to create this exact temperature for sperm production. But if you have tight underwear on, the testicles cannot “lower” because the underwear will continue to hold them up. This is one of the most common and overlooked causes of infertility. This also applies to tight pants. If you have boxers but wear tight pants, same problem.

Tight socks can leave infants with
lesions on their legs
Sept 18 : A team of researchers at Washington
University has revealed that socks with tight
elastic bands may result in infants getting lesions
on their legs.
Sock-line bands are raised, reddish markings in
the region of the ankle or leg, which occur after
wearing a tight pair of socks just once.

The Importance of Air

To breathe means to live
The air which we breathe contains oxygen. This one element is essential to sustain life. Without air a person will die and can have permanent brain damage within five minutes.
![Page 27: Copy of posture, breathing and clothing revised jason version](https://reader033.vdocuments.net/reader033/viewer/2022060205/55a0debd1a28ab6c2f8b45ce/html5/thumbnails/27.jpg)
We can live about
6 weeks without food,
3 days without water,
but only 5 minutes without air!

In order to have good blood, we must
breathe well. Full, deep inspirations of pure
air, which fill the lungs with oxygen, purify
the blood. They impart to it a bright color
and send it, a life-giving current, to every
part of the body.
A good respiration soothes the nerves; it
stimulates the appetite and renders digestion
more perfect; and it induces sound,
refreshing sleep.

but many adults don’t; they use only the
top part of their lung.

Let’s Do Breathing Exercice 4 – 7- 9
Breathe in deep for 4 seconds
Hold it for 7 seconds
Breathe out for 9 seconds
Do this exercise 10 times for 5 minutes.
This exercise fills the lungs with oxygen, purify the blood, brightens the color of the skin, and sends life-giving currents of blood to every part of the body
