What is HRM? Human(s)- people with their experience, skills,

knowledge and personal qualities. Human resource (HR)- the people, and the

policies and practices that affect them in the workplace.

Human Resource Management (HRM)- the management of the people and the staff policies and practices that enable an organization to carry out its work.

Human resource management, consists of all the activities undertaken by an enterprise to ensure the effective utilization of employees toward the attainment of individual, group, and organizational goals.

HRM is a multi-disciplinary subject. It includes the study of management, psychology, communication, economics, and sociology.

Goal of HRM

The goal of HRM is to help an organization meet strategic goals by attracting employees, maintaining employees, and managing them effectively.

The basic premise of the academic theory of HRM is that humans are not machines; therefore, we need to have an interdisciplinary examination of people in the workplace.

One widely used scheme to describe the role of HRM, developed by Dave Ulrich, defines four fields for the HRM function:1. Strategic business partner,2. Change agent,3. Employee champion, and4. Administration.
