The Mission of the IOI is to ensure the sustainability of the oceans as “the source of life”, and to uphold and expand the principle of the common heritage as enshrined in the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. IOI also strives to promote the concept of Pacem in Maribus – Peace in the Oceans - and ocean management and conservation for the benefit of future generations.

IOI was established in 1972 and its Headquarters are in Malta

The IOI is a global network of 25 Operational Centres and their host institutions.

At least half of the IOI’s Operational Centres are located in countries where coral reefs are an important part of the coastal ecosystem

Other IOI Centres are engaged in reef work

Page 7: Coral Reef Success Stories from the International Ocean Institute’s Global Network

To collate success story case studies solicited from IOI Centres and their host institutions and partners. The topics will be selected from those mentioned above.

To edit the case studies, and organise them in a standard format and a length of not more than 1,000 words per study

To compile the case studies in a report to be widely distributed
