Don’t Be Afraid Of The DarkPage 1

This is a screen shot from: http://business.pearlanddean.com/films_guide_details/5994/dont-be-afraid-of-the-dark It shows the reader a range of facts about the film. I am looking at this specific new film because the genre of it is Horror/Thriller and it links in with our own genre, it is also a price grade C which is realistically the grade we would be aiming for, as we don’t have the equipment and locations for it to be anything more. The estimated box office for this film is only 3,000,000 which isn't a lot comparing it to a major mainstream film, for example The Dark Knight Rises is estimated at 20,000,000 and I think it will go beyond that. Therefore I think this is a good film to do audience research on as it isn't out of our league by far.

Comparable ProfilePage 2

Here is a screen shot of a table from the same website as the last page, it gives the age, gender and class of the audience. As this film is a 15 it is obvious that no under 15 year olds would have watched it, on the other hand it goes all the way up to 45+ which is a big percent at 14% considering the type of film. The biggest percentage is in the age range of 15-24, this is because it will appeal to this age range more than any others as it is of a horror genre.

That is the age range we are aiming for also as we know it will appeal to this age more than any other. The gender is near enough the same with Female just ahead, we will be aiming for both genders in our trailer as we think it will appeal to both by our research already. The class with the highest percentage for this film is DE (lowest) but with C1 only 2% behind, this shows that it appeals to both the lower class and middle, which is also what my group and I are aiming for, as we don’t have the technology and equipment for it to appeal to all of the higher class.

This is a table of Empire’s readership and circulation, it dates back to 2003 and goes right up to 2010, it gives a clear view of how it has grown over the years starting at 578 readership in 2003 and 831 in 2010.I choose to analyse this magazine because it is one of the most popular, it gives a range of mainstream films throughout the year. Our film wouldn't be located on a magazine like this because ours is low budget and not fully mainstream, but this gives a good idea of how big their audience is.
