Tyler Technologies and Microsoft formed a strategic alliance in 2007 to jointly develop the public sector industry solution for Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012. This strategic alliance combines Tyler’s public sector domain expertise and Microsoft’s leading business management technology in a joint development effort that addresses the unique accounting needs of public sector organizations worldwide.

Insight Extensions provide added valueMicrosoft Dynamics was developed with a unique and ingenious model-driven layered architecture. The core of the system – the most basic and essential functionality – is at the center of the system in the SYS (base) layer. Surrounding layers may be customized to meet specific needs, without compromising the integrity of the programming.

In addition to jointly developing public sector code that resides in the SYS layer of Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012, Tyler delivers key enhancements to the out-of-the-box version that reside in the VAR (value added reseller) layer. We refer to this feature set as Insight Extensions.

Insight Extensions extend the functionality of Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 with Tyler’s ”insider’s insight” of the public sector, providing added value to our clients from day one of installation. Examples include enhanced workflow capabilities, purchasing card processing, custom reports, and interoperability in the form of complementary product integrations, data imports and data exports.

Our Insight team can also assist clients with customer-specific customizations. These would reside in the CUS (customer) layer.

LAyER DESCRIPTIOn

USR The User (USR) layer is for user modifications, such as reports.

CUS The Customer (CUS) layer is for modifications that are specific to an organization.

VAR Value Added Resellers can make modifications or new developments to the VAR layer as specified by the customers or as a strategy for creating an industry-specific solution. The VAR layer contains Tyler’s Insight Extensions.

ISV When an Independent Software Vendor (ISV) creates their own solution, their modifications are saved in the ISV layer.

SLN The Solution (SLN) layer is used by distributors to implement vertical partner solutions.

FPK The Feature Pack (FPK ) layer is reserved by Microsoft for future extensions to the product.

GLS When the application is modified to match country or region-specific legal demands, these modifications are saved in the global solutions (GLS) layer.

SyS The standard application is implemented at the lowest level, the SyS layer. The application objects in the standard application can never be deleted. This layer also contains any industry-specific functionality, such as the public sector solution jointly developed by Microsoft and Tyler.
