THE FAMILY OF the late Samuel W. Johnson extends their sin-cere appreciation and deep gratitude to all of those who sentcards, made donations and said prayers during our time of griev-ing for the loss of our loved one. To the American Legion Post#862 for allowing us the use of their hall and to those who con-tributed food for the reception, our genuine thanks. For a mostinspiring ceremony given by Pastor Michael Berkley, we aregrateful. For a well organized viewing and funeral service, wethank Bob Densmore and the funeral home staff. To all of youwho came and paid your respects to the family and said yourgood-byes to Sam, you made us aware of how many caringfriends he had and the lives he had touched in this small com-munity that he loved so much. Your kindness and thoughtfulnesswill be in our hearts forever. God Bless you all.

WHEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON, DONʼT IGNORE IT
(NAPSI)—Donʼt take this lightly: One of the most vital signals of an improperly functioningvehicle is the check engine light and, when illuminated, it alerts the driver to a variety of ex-isting potential problems. Nevertheless, vehicle checkups during car care events throughoutthe country reveal that the check engine light is on in nearly one out of 10 vehicles.
Some common malfunctions that can cause the check engine light to illuminate include afaulty oxygen sensor, mass airflow sensor, or spark plugs and wires. If the light flashes, thecondition is more critical and must be checked immediately to prevent severe damage, which may include catalytic converter damage.
“When the check engine light comes on, it means that a vehicle system such as the ignition, fuel injection or emission control is not operating properly, even if the vehicle appears to berunning normally,” explained Rich White, executive director, Car Care Council, the sourcefor the “Be Car Care Aware” campaign promoting regular vehicle care, maintenance andrepair.
“A glowing check engine light doesnʼt mean you have to immediately pull the car to the sideof the road, but it does mean you should get the car checked out as soon as possible. Ig-noring the warning light could result in costly repairs. At the very least, the light could alertyou to an engine problem that is negatively impacting fuel economy,” he added.
When scheduling service, make sure the automotive shop that examines your vehicle hasprofessional technicians who are trained and certified in OBDII diagnosis and repair. Thetechnician will connect your vehicleʼs computer system to a diagnostic scan tool, which willindicate why the light was activated.
At the same time, the technician can analyze idle speed, throttle response, engine temper-ature, fuel system pressure, manifold vacuum, exhaust emission levels and many otherkey indicators. Once the problem is fixed, the carʼs computer is reset to initiate its releaseprocess. The technician should then be able to tell you what needs to be done and discusspotential warranty coverage and further testing, if necessary.
