Coronary Arteries
and the 12 lead ECG By M.elkhatib
Coronary Anatomy
The coronary arteries arise from the to openings in the aorta called right and left ostiums.
The blood then passed through the coronary arteries to the cardiac muscle
The de oxygenated blood is returned to the heart via a network of coronary veins, arterioles and capillaries through the coronary sinus to the right atrium.
Coronary Circulation
Coronary artery blockage
Initial assessment is done via an ECG
The ECG can tell us which part of the heart muscle is ischemic or damaged
This also corresponds with which coronary arteries are affected
Occlusion
The right coronary artery supplies The right ventricle, inferior and posterior
wall It also supplies the SA and AV node
RCA
Supplies the anterior and septal wall of the left ventricle
Left anterior descending
Supplies the posterior wall Lateral wall Inferior wall (in 10% of the population
Left circumflex

ST segment point of interest when thinking about myocardial ischemia or injury
Complex
Ischemia - ST depression and T wave inversion
Injury - ST elevation Infarction - ST elevation Q Wave - old infarct
ST Changes
Action Potential
Action Potential
