Located in one of India’s most vibrant cities, Ahmedabad University is a private, non-profit, liberal education driven, research university rapidly developing into a serious center for scholarship. Ahmedabad University was founded by the Ahmedabad Education Society (AES), a non-profit educational trust. AES was established over 80 years ago at the behest of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the first Home Minister of India by illustrious leaders like Kasturbhai Lalbhai, the doyen of the Indian textile industry; Ganesh Mavalankar, the first Speaker of the Indian Parliament, the Lok Sabha; and Amrutlal Hargovandas, one of the doyen industrialists of Ahmedabad, with the purpose of advancing education in Gujarat and through its institutions, throughout India and the world. AES and the leaders therein have played significant roles in the founding of national institutions like IIM Ahmedabad, National Institute of Design, Physical Research Laboratory, and CEPT. The Trust is also responsible for supporting institutions of repute like MG College of Science, LD College of Arts, HL College of Commerce, LM College of Pharmacy, AG Teacher’s College, and Institute of Indology, amongst others. Ahmedabad University is the youngest AES institution and is managed by an independent Board of Governors.

History

Ahmedabad, a 600 year old city, is India’s official entry to the World Heritage City selection

by UNESCO. It is one of the most secure and safe cities with one of the best infrastructures in

the country; it has strong intellectual energy and entrepreneurial spirit, and has a high

potential for employment for young people. Ahmedabad University has a center-of-city

Amrut Mody School of Management offers the following programmes:

• BBA: A three year full time programme offering a dual specialisation in Marketing, Finance, Human Resources, Entrepreneurship, and Economics.

• Integrated MBA: A five year full time programme with a mix of interesting courses like Literature, Foreign Language, Science In Day to Day Life, and Discovering India. Focus is on family business, entrepreneurship, and international business. One full semester is designated for corporate internship. The thrust is on experiential learning through industry based projects and research based learning.

The above programmes are offered atB. K. Majumdar Institute of Business Administration (BKMIBA) which is a part of the School of Management. BKMIBA is known for quality education, standards of discipline, and inculcation of values.

• B.Com.: A three year full time programme with specialisation in the final year in Law, Taxation, and BFSI (Banking Financial Services and Insurance). The programme also offers a diversified learning experience through courses in areas like Mathematical Economics and Econometrics, Strategic Management and Entrepreneurship, Elements of Mathematics, Women’s Writing, and Nation and Its Others. This unique programme balances theoretical knowledge with practical exposure, nurtures academic excellence with holistic personality development, and inculcates a spirit of facilitated learning.

Amrut Mody School of Management

Ahmedabad University's School of Computer Studies offers the following programmes:

• Integrated MCA: A five year Integrated MCA Programme leading to a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Applications (BCA) and a Master’s degree in Computer Applications (iMCA).

• MCA: A two year Lateral Entry programme for graduates who have completed BCA and B.Sc. (IT/CS).

Over the years, the School has emerged as a leader in Computer Studies education in Gujarat, providing technology expertise and knowledge for professional career development in the IT industry. The curriculum is contemporary and industry oriented with specializations in current and emerging trends in IT/ Computing.


• Master of Business Administration: A two year full-time programme with four semesters, choice based credit system, provision for dual major and several functional and free electives. The Individual Social Responsibility Initiative is a two year long required course. Mentorship, Summer Internships and innovative and contemporary courses are part of the offering.

• Ph.D.: A full-time programme with external options and one year of course work consisting of 32.5 semester credits. There is a campus requirement for one semester and stipend for full-time students.

• Continuing Education Programmes: Short duration Management Development Programmes (MDPs) and Organization based executive training programmes (OBPs) are offered.

School of Computer Studies

Ahmedabad University’s School of Engineering and Applied Science (formerly known as IET) offers the following programmes:

• B.Tech. in Information and Communication Technology (ICT): A four year full time programme which is a blend of computer science, communication and signal processing, and electronics. It has the provision of offering a dual degree of B.Tech. and M.Tech. after five years.

• B. Tech. in Mechanical Engineering: A four year full time programme having classical mechanical engineering as its core with emphasis on Mechatronics.

• B. Tech. in Chemical Engineering: A four year full time programme that focuses on chemical engineering practices.

• M. Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE): A two year full time programme with live case study based curriculum. It has included newly developed interdisciplinary programmes in the curriculum.

• Ph.D.: A full-time programme offering high quality research in collaboration with leading institutes in the world. Financial aid for Ph.D. Fellows is available.

School of Engineering and Applied Science

The School delivers education with extensive students-centric pedagogies to produce excellent learning out comes. Its project based educational approach creates dynamic and pro-active graduates with capacities for lifelong learning, complex problem solving, design and innovation and relating technology to society. Project-based learning is a critical and capstone feature of the programmes, with the result that students graduate not as freshers but as full-fledged engineering professionals capable of multi-disciplinary team-based execution. Ahmedabad University’s School of Arts & Sciences, Division of Biological & Life Sciences, (formerly known as ILS) offers the following programmes:

• Integrated M.Sc.: A five year full time programme offering specialisation in Biochemistry, Biotechnology and Microbiology. An exit option is available after four years with a B.Sc. degree.

• Ph.D.: A full-time programme offering an inter-disciplinary, application oriented research in the areas of Nano-biotechnology, Nanomedicine, Nanotoxicology, Bioinformatics, Immunology, Environmental Biotechnology, and Bioengineering.

The above programmes are focused on multi-disciplinary research based teaching

with emphasis on individual projects and experiments in state of the art laboratories. Each student has hands-on training in current techniques in cell and molecular biology, biochemistry, genomics and proteomics, flow cytometry, animal cell culture, cellular imaging, microbiology, nanobiotechnology among others. Apart from this, emphasis is also given on in silico biology including molecular modeling, QSAR, docking and other bioinformatics tools. The School has set up Centres of Excellence in Flow Cytometry, in silico technologies, Imaging, Nanotechnology Research, and Applications (CENTRA).


The School of Engineering and Applied

Science has entered into an academic partnership with Olin

College of Engineering, USA. The partnership includes a faculty

exchange programme aimed at integrating project-based learning

and design thinking into the engineering curriculum at

Ahmedabad University, thus offering a new model for

education in India.

VentureStudio is a venture design and incubation centre, established by Ahmedabad University (AU). Based on a design-thinking approach, VentureStudio programmes lead aspiring entrepreneurs to arrive at a viable product or service, through the process of concept definition, market identification, stakeholder and contextual research, and then focus on execution speed to help them set up the initial venture structure, take the product to its lead customers, and scale it up. VentureStudio is currently conducting the following programmes:

VentureStudio (VS)

Centres at Ahmedabad University

VentureStudio has also created a strong ecosystem of mentors to support potential entrepreneurs, including investors, mentors, industrialists, and professionals, and academic and research leaders. VS provides a very creative and collaborative working space. It also facilitates funding support at seed, angel and VC levels through close association with partners. VS is an approved nodal agency under the Government of Gujarat start-up scheme. It is an approved Technology Business Incubator under the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India and works closely with other institutes like CIIE- IIMA, IIT-Gn, TiE, NID, iCreate, EDI etc., to develop the Ahmedabad and Gujarat venture ecosystem.

VentureStudio was set up in

collaboration with Centre for Design Research,

Stanford University to mentor and nurture the start-up

environment in Ahmedabad by creating innovative

scalable business ventures.

Ahmedabad University established Student Support, Engagement and Tutelage as a student facilitation center to offer its students more and varied services that not only support them but also make their tenure here as comfortable and fruitful as possible. The University’s endeavour is to reach out to its students, particularly those from out of town who are living away from their families in Ahmedabad to pursue their education. The objective is to provide guidance and support in academic and personal spheres of the lives of the students and help build better and happier lives on the campus. SSETU is an access point for students for seeking information and services as listed below:

• Academic Advising: All aspects of course structure, design, and selection, and guidance on the selection of programmes of study, transferring to and within AU, etc.

• Housing and Community Services: This includes information about residential accommodation – hostels and PG, facilitating integration with local culture, and creating awareness about

anti- ragging and sexual harassment policies and consequences of drug abuse.

• Financial Aid: Guidance is provided on the University managed financial aid, and information for access to other forms of aid, including banking and loans.

• Free Medical Consultation: A senior consulting physician is available from 1 pm to 3.30 pm daily from Mondayto Friday and a gynecologist is available on Mondays and Fridays from 4 pm to 5 pm. Primary health check-up is mandatory for First Year students. Blood Donation and Thalassemia Screening camps are held for Third Year students.

• Personal Counseling: Counseling for personal, academic or relationship issues in an environment of privacy and confidentiality are provided.

• Talks/Workshops/Awareness: Topics as varied as Gender Sensitivity, Self Defense, Study Abroad, Health, Yoga, Mind Mapping etc. are covered in various sessions.

Student Support Engagement and Tutelage (SSETU) Physiotherapy College for the Visually Impaired

The Diploma in Physiotherapy for the

visually impaired is conducted at two

centres: Physiotherapy College for the

Visually Impaired originally set up by the

Deaf Mute Society, Ahmedabad, and

Physiotherapy Department, Blind People

Association, Ahmedabad. Visually challenged

students from all over India are eligible for

admission on completion of Standard 12

examinations with English as a subject. The

selection is done only after a detailed

assessment. The faculty uses the standard

lecture method for teaching. All these

lectures are recorded live on computers

using the latest sound recording software.

This enables the students to refer to this

data at any time after the class. The writer

based exams often lead to unsatisfactory

results as the writer chosen may not be

good in handwriting or is often unfamiliar

with the medical terminology and may not

write the paper in the required speed.

Hence, the examinations are conducted

using the multiple choice question formats

on a computer.
