The target set for the BBBEE scorecard in the Socio-Economic Development category was exceeded and the target set for Enterprise Development was reached.

Staff were encouraged to do things “The LegalWise Way” through engaging in issues they are passionate about.

“All the historic evidence indicates that significant community development

only takes place when local community people are committed to investing themselves

and their resources in the effort.

That’s why you can’t develop communities from the top down, or from the outside in”

LegalWise continued to invest in job creation initiatives in an attempt to address the high levels ofunemployment in South Africa. Two bakeries were sponsored in 2011 - namely the Heavenly Treats

Bakery in Kimberley and the Divas Bakery in Bergville, KZN.

The Divas Bakery in Bergville is run by a group of ladies who have been baking together for a number of years. They sell their produce at the local taxi rank and havea fairly brisk trade. The bakery has ensured that they are able to service many more customers as well as expand their product range. When asked how things were going, the comment was “We are making too much money!”

The Heavenly Treats Bakery has been set up at the Jehovah Jireh Foundation, an organisation which receives support from the LegalWise Kimberley branch. The organisation feeds about 600 underprivileged children daily and the bakery will go a long way to generating an income for the project and providing bread for the feeding scheme.
