Computers donated to the Saraswati Mandir Sanstha, Night School and College in Pune

tkIS India’s commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility took it to the Saraswati Mandir Sanstha, a night school and junior college in old Pune. Set up many decades ago, the school is devoted to serving the needy students of Pune, many of whom work in the day, and further their academic progress at the trust’s night school and junior college.

‘Our students come from the needy sections of society, and many of them have had little or no exposure to computers. Hence, these computers - a valuable addition to our computer lab – will go a long way in making them computer literate and efficient,’ said Mr VV Ambekar, Chairman of the Educational Trust. ‘We are honored and touched by the generosity of thyssenkrupp,’ he said in his inaugural address.

Replying to the address, Mr PD Samudra, MD spoke with emotion about his own familial involvement with academics, and how he felt a distinct personal connect with this project. ‘We at thyssenkrupp Industrial Solutions (India) are honored to be able to support you in a small way,’ he said to the audience, which comprised the management, staff and students of the school / junior college, before handing over the donation agreement.

Mr NR Chitre, CFO & ED too reminisced about his experiences as a youth and student, likening the school to a temple of learning. Ms Mandakini Paul, Head Pune Operations expressed how humbled she felt to be a part of the effort of donating to the needy cause. ‘Do remember to upkeep these computers in the years to come,’ she reminded the School Management.

Ms Sonal Singh, Group Head PERS, HR & ADM took the audience through the many academic and medical projects that tkIS India were privileged to take up in the last 2 years, since the Government introduced the CSR initiative. ‘We take our CSR commitment very seriously, and we ensure our outlays are well-spent’ she said, citing recent reports, that despite the Government mandate for compulsory CSR contributions, many companies were shying away from their responsibility.

Mr Hemant Dighe, GM Planning and Team Leader for the CSR project, thanked his team members, and the many colleagues from VKO and PO who made the contribution possible.

The Rotary Club of Pune Hillside, who helped identify the project, were project partners. They were represented by Advocate Mrs Pratibha Ghorpade, President.
