RECYCLING/ WASTE MANAGEMENT

In 2006, we increased the recycling rate by 9% and reduced waste to landfill. The increase in recycling was achieved by implementing recycling programs forstyrofoam, parts and accessories, etc. The recycling rate for the FUJIFILM U.S.A.is 79% (not including the one-time-use cameras that are recycled.) See chartbelow for the waste management performance from 2002 through 2006.

In May 2006, the Fujifilm Valhalla, NY, facility conducted a “Clean Out Your Files Day” event. The target was to increase employee participation in clean outrelated activities and increase recycling by 25% from the 2005 event. The collection and recycling for the event was improved by 320% as compared tothe collection on the clean out event for 2005. The event generated 5.79 tonsof paper products, 2.85 tons of electronic materials and 185 pounds of batteries. The 2005 event generated 2.07 tons of paper based materials.

In 2005, we identified fractional waste from our color paper factory inGreenwood, SC, that could be turned into product that could be sold for specific use. In 2006, we sold 918,400 square feet of the material that otherwise would have been disposed.

Fujifilm introduced the Fujifilm QuickSnap one-time-use camera in 1986, incorporating Fujifilm’s environment-friendly technology. The inverse manufacturing process we employ has served as a case study for the effectiveness of a reduce, reuse and recycle manufacturing philosophy. To increase the ease of recycling, the product is designed for assembly without screws or adhesives. The plastic components are recycled and re-used in the manufacture of new cameras, reducing the need for virgin plastic. This approach to plastics material management reduces carbon dioxide emissions by 90%. When the camera was introduced the recycling percentage by volume per QuickSnap was 36%. Today the recycling percentage by volume per unit has risen to 95%.

Fujifilm’s latest Frontier Digital Minilab, the Frontier 500, was manufactured to reduce the volume of effluent by 15%. By making the unit more compact, engineers succeeded in reduced the total footprint (and raw material consumption) by 20% and reducing emissions by about 30% as compared to previous models. Energy consumption was also reduced by 20%.

ENERGY

In 2005, we started work on a project to retrofit HVAC units in our facility inCypress, CA, with more energy efficient units. This project reduced the energyusage in the facility by 20.2% for 2006, thereby reducing the greenhouse gasemission. Also, through the consolidation of Fujifilm facilities, the electricityusage for our larger facilities was reduced by 3.15%.

SAFETY

The I3A Safety Excellence Award Program has been very successful in recognizing outstanding occupational safety and health programs among member companies. In 2006, FUJIFILM U.S.A. facilities in Hanover Park, IL,Cypress, CA, Irving, TX, Norcross GA and FUJIFILM e-Systems received the awards.
