THAT Dr. Keltie Jones, Dean, and Jamie Bramburger, Manager of Student & Community Affairs, on behalf of Algonquin College, Pembroke Campus, appear before Council to provide information on the new programming, enrollment and economic importance of the campus to the region. - CARRIED -

Dr. Jones and Mr. Bramburger appeared before Council and provided an overview of

Algonquin College’s impact on Renfrew County. The Pembroke Campus has a current enrollment of approximately 1,000 students of which 50% come from outside of Renfrew County. The college is supported by three private student residences with a fourth under construction. There is 20 full-time programs comprised of a good mix of trades, sciences, business, and outdoor training. The college is working towards meeting the challenges of the local labour market and embracing the diversity of its students. A copy of this presentation has been appended to the original copy of these minutes.

Members of Council praised the college for its significant presence and importance to

this area. Reeve Emon questioned whether the college could help address the projected shortage of trained municipal government workers by providing focused education and training.

THAT Michael Hennessy, representative from Cogeco Connexion, appear before Council to provide information on the CRTC Mandate of providing High Speed Internet to rural homes. - CARRIED -

Mr. Hennessy appeared before Council as part of his campaign to visit municipal

councils across eastern Ontario to garner support for Cogeco’s plan to address the CRTC’s mandate to provide and/or expand connectivity to under-serviced areas of the province. Although Renfrew is fully serviced by high speed internet and cellular broadband, Council’s support is still very important. The proposed letter of support will

THAT EDO Thomas appear before Council to provide the 2019 Special Events Report. - CARRIED -

Ms. Thomas provided highlights of the following 2019 town events:

Forest Life Expo (Saw-Tech) Bluegrass Taste of the Valley Craft Beer and Food Truck Festival

It was suggested that the statistical information from this report be shared with the

Renfrew BIA and Chamber of Commerce. Members of Council thanked all those involved in organizing and running these events

and noted the importance of events in community building. A copy of Ms. Thomas’ presentation has been appended to the original copy of these

was elected as the new County Warden. Reeve Emon has been placed on the Operations Committee and several others.
