LOOKIN’ FOR THE BROOM: The Hooks aim for their first series sweep of the season this evening. If Corpus Christi can capture tonight’s finale, it would be the club’s first series sweep in Midland since the Hooks ran the table in a 5-game set July 25-28, 2013, at Security Bank Ballpark. The Permian Basin has not been kind to Corpus Christi. The Hooks are 82-113 (.421) all-time here in West Texas. Since win-ning 11 of 16 at Midland in 2013, Corpus Christi is 22-33 (.400) in Rocky Town. THREE’S A PARTY: In taking the first 3 games here at Security Bank Ballpark, the Hooks have secured their 9th se-ries victory of the season. This series W marks the first time Corpus Christi notched consecutive wins this month. The last time the club enjoyed back-to-back triumphs was during the season-high 4 game win streak May 24-27. WONDER WOODY: C Trent Woodward ’s game-winning 2-run double in the nightcap last night extended his hit streak to 11 games. Woodward his batting .421 (16-for-38) with 6 runs, 4 doubles, 1 home run, 8 RBIs and 6 walks during this stretch. The 25-year-old switch-hitter has hit safely in 16 of his last 18 games, raising his batting average from .167 to .293. J.D. POWER & ASSOCIATES: J.D. Davis, who belted his 40th career Hooks home run last night, leads the Texas League in dingers (17), slugging percentage (.556), total bases (134) and extra-base hits (30). Davis is averaging 1 home run for every 14.18 at-bats. BREAKIN’ OUT: Corpus Christi has scored 21 runs in the first 3 games of this series, batting .350 with 8 doubles, 2 triples, 3 home runs and 17 RBIs. The club has worked 10 walks against 16 strikeouts, reaching base at a .414 clip. The Hooks engineered their most lopsided victory of the year Thursday night, establishing new season-highs for hits (17) and doubles (5). In the series opener, the Hooks matched their 2017 standard for runs in a game, beating Midland 11-3. Corpus Christi man-aged just 11 runs in the 5 games from June 9 through Tuesday’s series finale in San Antonio. WALTER JOINS PEN: The Astros have promoted RHP Andrew Walter to Corpus Christi from High -A Buies Creek. Wal-ter, who began the year in extended spring training recovering from Tommy John surgery, posted a 3.18 ERA (2 ER/5.2 IP) in 4 Carolina League appearances. The 26-year-old right-hander struck out 3 and walked 3. Walter’s 2016 campaign was limited to 4 assignments with Lancaster. This marks the first Double-A stint for Walter, who was signed by Houston as a non-drafted free agent in July 2011.
